The cool, crisp air smacked at Lucy's delicate, warm cheeks in an unbelievably welcomed way. Something about being trapped against her will really made freedom taste sweet, even if it was freezing out. She wrapped her arms around herself, shivering as she made the slow trek further and further away from Waller's Headquarters. She stopped walking for a bit as soon as she had crossed the street. Looking back at the building, something inside of her nudged her to keep going. She knew she could easily rescue the kids but looking around the dark, damp streets around her, with the flickering streetlights, in the middle of the unreliable, unpredictable city that was Gotham, she figured it would be best if they remained safe inside the building.

She didn't know where she'd go, what she would do, or worse, who she would run into if she kept walking, but she knew she had to keep going.

This part of town was very unfamiliar to her, especially after having lost her sense of direction, she just kept walking and hoping creeps wouldn't find her along the way. She kept shivering, looking around timidly, suddenly feeling a burst of fear when she heard the rumbling of a car moving closer and closer.

She looked up to see a car coming closer. She tried not to make eye contact with it but the sleek dark SUV slowed down a tad bit as it neared Lucy. She kept walking, keeping her eyes directly on the space before her. She looked determined.

The man in the SUV lowered his window a bit, looking suspiciously at Lucy before picking up speed again and driving off.

Lucy sighed a shuddered breath of relief when she saw from the corner of her eye the SUV had turned the corner and sped off.

_________

"Hmm?" Joker eyed Frost from the backseat of the car, and grinned. "Saw something you like?"

"Just thought it was strange, seeing a young girl out on the streets this late." Frost shrugged, rolling his window back up.

"It's midnight in Gotham, Frosty, that's when the freaks come out." Joker grinned, looking out at the blurry streetlights zipping by as they flew down the street.

__________

Eagle-eyed, Harley watched as the white, almost flawless armored vehicle moved slowly over the rain-soaked concrete. Her breath grew heavy from anticipation. She wanted confrontation and resolve, and she wanted it now.

Where her daughter was involved, the beast within her was untamed. If her own life was in danger, she wouldn't give a rats tail. But when Lucy was involved, her defenseless child, it almost scared her how much of a felon she had the potential to be. Although she already was, but that was beside the point.

"Guns at the ready." Flagg instructed.

Harley rolled her eyes. "What is this, the military?" She mocked.

Flagg ignored her comments. He had learned how to, anyway. In the beginning, Harley was nearly intolerable. He couldn't even remember how many times he had wanted to strangle her over all the noise coming out of her. She was annoying and that really killed the whole sexiness that came with the blonde. Men would do anything for the attention of the bubble, ditsy Harley Quinn but Flagg? His fantasies always involved shutting Harley up in the most non-sexual, which-one-of-my-weapons-of-destruction-should-i-use-on-this-bitch sorta way.

In other words, if you asked Flagg, he'd say there was absolutely nothing appealing about Harley Quinn.

There were a few more seconds of silence, prompting Floyd to look over at Flagg.

"So...we movin?" He asked, almost impatiently.

Flagg watched the armored vehicle inch closer and closer. He was very much interested in the impending sabotage of the vehicle that would take place by the squad but more than anything, he wanted to know where the endpoint would be. Where was it going?

"Not yet." Flagg said.

"This is our chance, man, ain't no way I'm letting that thing get away scotch-free tonight." Floyd remarked in an agitated tone. He was just as antsy as Harley was.

"Yeh, mate, now's our chance. It's not like we're waiting for the thing to explode." Captain Boomerang chimed in.

Flagg's eyes widened at this remark. He looked back at Boomerang.

"Shit. That's it!" Flagg quickly cocked his gun and looked back at his group in warning. "Get back!"

The squad complied hurriedly, knowing Flagg was a tactical mastermind. Seconds later, Flagg also began to back up and fired a shot at the armored vehicle.

All of a sudden, a deafening BANG followed by a blinding explosion rocked the streets, the force throwing all the members of the squad onto the cold, hard pavement beneath them.

"Ahh!" Harley screamed as her body rolled back with the force of the explosion.

__________

It seems the further Lucy walked, the darker the streets got. The tighter her lungs seemed, despite being out in the open with fresh air all around. There was something so grimy, so dirty about this place. She looked up and all of a sudden things made sense. She stood at the corner of Magnolia st. and Makert st.

She didn't know much about Gotham, but she knew exactly where she was. Northern Downtown. Near the narrows. Near Arkham. She had never made it to this part of town alone before. She began to tremble, in fear and anticipation. Fear because she knew the type of people she had the potential to meet in these corrupt streets.

Anticipation because she knew it would be inevitable. She had no form of contact with anyone at this point. She truly felt alone, and Gotham in the dead of night, for someone like Lucy, was the loneliest she'd been.

Suddenly, a loud bang was heard and the ground shook beneath Lucy's feet. She screamed involuntarily as the force of an explosion caused her knees to buckle and she fell. She looked ahead of her and a cloud of smoke was visible behind the buildings.

She could either run towards it or run away from it.

It wasn't safe either way.

_____________

"What the fuck was that!?" Oswald yelled out, holding onto the rocking table before him.

Ivy looked up at the moving Chandelier, feeling the rocking of the table and the earth beneath them. Her eyes filled with dread.

"Horrible..this disturbance." She muttered.

"What do you think that was?" One of Oswald's men asked as he rushed to the windows.

Oswald looked over to the man, clearly panicked and agitated. "STOP ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS AND START INVESTIGATING YOU IDIOT!"

"Oh shit..boss! Check it out! It's a mushroom cloud!" The same goon exclaimed as he pointed out of the large window.

Oswald and Ivy rushed over and saw a large mushroom cloud moving slowly up into the night sky.

"This isn't good." Oswald muttered.

Ivy looked over. "You think you can get these oafs to drive us over there?"

Oswald smiled. "Of course, my lady." Then, turning to his two-bit men, he screamed out "YOU HEARD THE LADY, GET THE CAR RUNNING!!"

_____________

The Joker growled as he jumped out of the SUV and looked up at the mushroom cloud moving up into the sky.

"Fuck.." Frost muttered. "Like a war zone."

Joker grinned. "Really puts a big ol' smile on this clowns face."

"You wanna go check it out, boss?" Frost asked.

Joker looked over at Frost and started to cackle. "Oh, you know me so well Johnny boy."
