Booby trap

"A booby trap. Really?" Harvey scoffed.

"You haven't even heard what I have to say," Ivy said flustered in self-defense.

"I've heard enough," Harvey bit.

The alliance had come together the following night for a briefing. Ivy had suggested she had thought of the most brilliant plan.

Oswald rolled his eyes disapprovingly at Harvey. "Ivy, please continue."

"We all have our turf, our territory. I have my pumpkin patch, the clown has his amusement park-"

"And Ace." joker added.

"I thought Ace was destroyed by Harley back when you split." Oswald said.

"Nothing of mine is ever destroyed." The joker grin.

Ivy rolled her eyes, "whatever, look. What I'm saying is, we lay a series of traps starting at the reference point of these armored trucks. They're not manned, so maybe we can hack into their GPS systems and change the route."

Oswalds eyes widened in approval. He loved where Ivy was going with this.

"And from there, lure the trucks away.." Oswald whispered.

"See, that's stupid. Why would we waste all that time and energy luring it away when we could destroy them on the spot?" Harvey spat at Ivy.

Ivy smirked and replied in her most matter-of-fact voice: "a dog who bites his own tail and chases it, that's what you are Harvey. And that's the scenario you just pictured."

Oswald smirked.

Harvey looked at Ivy baffled, earning a smirk from his corrupt counterparts.

Joker rolled his eyes.
"For one, luring the trucks away could expose the assailant, and two, they can just keep resending the trucks if we keep destroying them, use yer head, you prick," joker spat.

Ivy smirked. "I can't believe I'm siding with the clown this time."

Joker winked and blew her a kiss.

"And it's gone." Ivy frowned.

There was silence and darkness all around the squad. They had pinpointed the exact location the armored trucks had first appeared.
They were hoping to confront it first-hand so as to investigate the exact origins.
And they were well aware that the criminal underworld had come together to form an alliance, so they vied to get their hands dirty first in order to save themselves from the possibility of a disaster.

They lay in wait, weapons drawn. Harley's thoughts lingered to Lucy. Her baby.
She had been devastated to learn of her pregnancy. Not because she didn't want Lucy but because of the circumstances.
Lucy's father.
Her acceptance into that world would be...chaotic.

Harley and joker had discussed children.
Joker wasn't against the idea, not by a long shot. But his sadistic desires for an heir had awakened something in Harley.
If she fell pregnant, he'd celebrate by painting the town red. The baby would grow in a hostile environment, constantly exposed to the bloodshed and negativity.
The baby wouldn't blossom, instead she'd take up her fathers tendencies. His tics. His desires.

Harley fell for the clown but she didn't want her babies to go down that road. A part of her fought hard in that regard.

That's why when she fell pregnant with Lucy, she couldn't risk it. She had confided to Frost that she was adamant on getting away, for an entire year.
Luckily, the joker who was normally attentive, was quite uninterested. Once Harley had returned, frost told her he had convinced his boss that she was in the looney bin.

Harley wasn't as disturbed at the fact that Frost could lie to his boss so easily as she was disturbed by the fact that Joker would have just left her there, in Arkham, to rot.
That moment was the point everything started to fall apart. They say a baby makes or breaks a relationship.
It seems Lucy was the one to thank for breaking her out of this toxic relationship.
Harley smiles to herself, in the dark, quiet, damp alley in the narrows of Gotham.
A bat in hand, a gun in the other, the thought of her daughter made her grip her weapons harder.

Lucy had managed to squeeze inside the vent in the ceiling. It was an extremely narrow fit. She realized that most of her trapped friends either wouldn't fit, or wouldn't be so keen to move through rat and roach infested vents.
She couldn't blame them but she knew one of them had to summon the courage to act and get them out of there.
Lucy was just too full of energy. She wanted the positive end result so she had no problem putting in work. As she crawled further, she noticed the air around her getting colder.
More fresh.
She smiled and kept on crawling.
The voices of her trapped friends had long disappeared and she was left only with her panting and grunting in the narrow vents.
As she continued forward, something caught her eye. She turned her gaze to a new opening in the vent. Light was shining through.
She excitedly began crawling over. As soon as she reached the light she began to investigate but within seconds, the vent gave out and she fell through.

Her eyes were closed as pain shot through her body in waves.

"Crap," she muttered, reaching around to her back and massaging the afflicted area. She looked around her and noticed she was in the lobby.
The lobby!
She scrambled up to her feet and hurried toward the automatic sliding doors.

As they slid open, Lucy's smile widened and she sighed, content.
