Chapter six

Saturday 4pm

She handed me one of prettiest dress in her wardrobe (who am I kidding, they were all beautiful), a black, a flared skirt and studs on the top part, it was perfect.

“You’re gonna go to a fancy restaurant and you’re going to be very formal, okay? Do you understand? You flirt, smile and laugh at his jokes. You don’t do anything that will make him regret going, understand?”

Another hour of lessons on how to act.

“Yes, I understand”

Saturday 6pm

I stood out front wearing the perfect dress with a spaghetti sting bag over my shoulder and a smile on my face. I saw the car come around the corner. My smile got bigger as the car came closer. As he pulled over I leaned in and he wound down the window.

“Waiting for someone?” His smile grew bigger.

“Yeah but I don’t think he’ll show, maybe you could take me out instead”

“Oh, I would love to” He was so charming, I thought I was on an actual date and that he actually liked me.

“Where are we going then?”

“Daiichi, you know the new restaurant in town?”

“No worries”

We drove around for about an hour.

“You don’t know where it is do you?”

“No clue” I giggled at his ‘joke’

“Pull over, I’ll drive”

We pulled over and he gave me the keys. Once we got back into the car I felt like driving, just driving, nowhere planned.

We get to Daiichi and I just stared at Jake for a minute.

“Let’s go” He smiled and got out and opened my door for me.

We got inside and he worked out the reservations Samantha had made earlier. We were shown our seats and he pulled mine out for me to sit down.

“Stop doing that” I said nervously but angrily.

“What?”

“Being such a gentlemen”

He gave a little laugh and said “I don’t know what you’re talking about”

“You’re always pulling my chair out for me, smiling at me, calling me beautiful. It’s really annoying”

“Mh, can’t help it, this was how I was brought up”

“Tell your mum that she shouldn’t have brought a boy to be so perfect” He gave a smile but then lost it.

“My mum died when I was five”

“I’m so sorry!”

“No, that’s okay”

“I’m sure she would be very proud of you”

“Why? Because I can play football.”

“I’m sure she would, I mean you’re a great guy with an amazing personality.

“But I don’t get good grades, I don’t have good taste in girls. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean you, just Samantha and some other girls”

“What other girls would that be?”

“Just the girls I dated before Samantha. Anyway why are we here? What happened to the four day rule?”

I laughed and thought about how to tell him.

“Sorry, Samantha spoke to me, she told me she thought we would be a cute couple and well told me to call you and put it on loud speaker. That was why I cut you off and hung up, I didn’t want to tell her I was just with you because I don’t think she would understand that I went out with you before she said I could”

“You seem to care a lot about what she thinks”

“Well, she dated you before me and I thought she might have found it weird”

“Yeah I guess but what if she didn’t want us to date?”

“I guess that would be too bad”

“I guess it is” He leaned closer to me and put him hand on my cheek as we kissed.
