Chapter eleven
It was the worst 7 hours of my life, well so far. I spent the whole day avoiding Jake and Samantha and actually everyone else. I had to walk back to our house after school and mum said she would pick me up after an hour to take me to the hospital. I was stopped on my way home, by Jake.
“What are we doing?” He asked
“Mh, you seem to ask that a lot”
“I’m serious”
“You know what, me too. What are we doing Jake?”
“I don’t know what you’re doing but I’m trying to get close to you. Just let me”
“I want to, but…”
“There doesn’t have to be a but” He said smiling at me, god how I loved his smile. He leaned in closer and kissed me.
We walked home and mum took us both to the hospital. As soon as we walked into dad’s hospital room, mum walked back out and told us she would be back in a few hours. Jake walked over to the wall across the room, slid down and gestured so me to come sit with him. I walked over and sat in his lap, leaned onto him and tilted my head towards him. We sat there for an hour just talking, about, well, everything.
“Why’d you dye your hair?” I asked
“Well, to be honest it was because of you. You went from brown to blonde and I thought I would too.”
“How’d you know I had brown hair?”
“What you think I didn’t notice you?”
“Well, yeah a little”
“I was just didn’t think you noticed me, I mean I’m in your classes but doesn’t mean you would have noticed me”
All I could do was laugh, he looked down at me and gave a worrying smile.
“What are you laughing at?” He smiled
“You didn’t think I noticed you, you are the most popular boy in school and I was a nerd”
“Maybe but I wanted you to be my nerd”
He continued talking for hours until we feel asleep.
Mum woke me up the next morning and I woke up Jake, mum took us to school. We walked in together and everything felt amazing. Well until I saw Samantha at the end of the hallway. I knew she would come up and speak to me. I was right. She came right up to me and spoke.
“Nice to see you two are getting close”
“The only thing you think is nice is a sale” Jake said before I could say anything.
“See you know me too well” She said as she turned to me.
“And this is for you, turns out even in the worst of times you can still do my ‘dirty-work’? I think you called it.” She held out a $20 dollar note, I grabbed it and hoped Jake didn’t see what it was.
