ALMOST SUMMER

When it's only almost Summer
Days are still quite crisp and cool
The trees are almost budding
Still no swimming in the pool,

Time for Spring and April showers
With the grass a brighter green,
The earth is really warmer
In those happy days between.

April's smiling in the valley
There is laughter on the hill
All of nature bright and shining
Where the tiny sunbeams spill,

Grass is getting so much greener
Tiny violets burst in bloom,
All the world lends peace and beauty
Nature sings a happy tune.

Cotton cloudsteps bless the heavens,
April skies are soft and blue,
Waiting for the kiss of Maytime
When at last Spring bids adieu,

Yet the April showers are falling
Gentle-tender-day by day,
'Cause it's only almost Summer
Springtime breezes bless our way.
