It was only a matter of time before someone would notice. I had no idea why the Unfavorables could be seen. Maybe it was because students had wandered too far outside of camp, or maybe the enchantments could only work for a certain amount of time, but whatever the reason, the results were bad.

The students were clearly visible.

It looked like they were practicing basic shield spells to deflect unfriendly curses. They were lining up; girls on one side and boys on the other. Cassady was weaving between them, watching them as they practiced. I would have felt proud if I wasn't absolutely terrified.

"Is something the matter, Miss. Cliffton?" Snape said. He didn't seem to notice the Unfavorables outside, nor did any of the professors. They were all too busy staring at me in confusion.

I managed to pry my eyes away from the window and focus on Snape, but I had completely lost my words. Thankfully, Draco jumped in, not missing a beat.

"Audrianna was saying that we are very excited to settle into our positions as Junior Inquisitors, but we just want to make sure the staff is all on the same page with regards to our new role."

"I see," Snape replied. "You two have been working with the Carrows to determine what your role would entail, correct?"

"Correct," said Draco. "The Carrows are going to train Audrianna in I in the Dark Arts, and we are going to be in charge of punishments for unruly students. We will also oversee the isolation wing to make sure the Unfavorables are behaving, and we will release students when they have shown they can go back to their houses."

Snape paused and looked at us, his beady black eyes searching mine and Draco's. He could tell something wasn't right, but he hadn't pinpointed exactly what it was. This angered him.

"Do you really think they are ready for this?" he asked, turning to look at the Carrows.

"I believe so," said Amycus. "They have shown real initiative, and they are Death Eaters after all. If Lord Voldemort trusts them with this honor, then I see no reason why they shouldn't be in charge of discipline."

As hard as I tried to concentrate, my eyes kept wandering back to the window where the Unfavorables were in full view, casting spells left and right. It would only be a matter of time before one of the students noticed and fixed the enchantments. Or at least I hoped.

C'mon Cassady, I thought to myself. Please notice. Please.

"Is something the matter, Audrianna?" Alecto asked, tilting her head in concern. I tried to snap out of it.

"Of course, Professor," I said. "Everything is fine."

She gave me a puzzled look, but then turned back to Snape.

"So what do you think, Headmaster?" she asked. "Audrianna has been your apprentice after all, and you have known Draco since he was very young. Surely you are pleased?"

Snape said nothing; he just looked at the two of us. By some miracle, he had not looked out the window yet, and none of the other professors had seemed to catch on, either.

"I... see no issue with it," he said coldly, before turning to the rest of the table. "But I am open to hear any dissenting opinions."

Draco and I looked to the other professors at the table as they looked at us with disdain. I tried to focus on breathing in and out, worried that my panic would give us away. If the Carrows noticed the Unfavorables, they would go to investigate and no-doubt notice the secret passageway. Then, Draco and I would be found out and murdered for treason. We had to keep them distracted, whatever it took.
