We ran back to the courtyard as fast as our feet would carry us. We didn't know if everyone else knew about the arrival of Voldemort's Army, so we needed to deliver the message to them as soon as possible. Every second was precious.

By the time we made it to the other end of the covered bridge, which opened up to the courtyard, I skidded to a halt as I was greeted by a face I did not expect. Mother.

I ran to her and threw my arms around her.

"Mummy," I whimpered as I tightened my grip around her. "I've missed you so, so much."

"I've missed you too, my darling," she replied softly, her voice as kind as I had ever heard it.

"How did you know about...?" I started, but she raised her hand to stop me.

"I know more than you think — you didn't think I was isolated from everyone, did you?"

As she said those words, Molly Weasley came into view as she walked through the castle's front doors.

"Mrs. Weasley," I said, shocked. Mrs. Weasley gave me a nod and a grin.

"Arielle and I are old friends," she said. "Your mum may have been in hiding, but she's still a member of the Order of the Phoenix."

Suddenly, I felt very afraid.

"Mummy, I don't want you to fight," I said, sounding like a little child again. "I don't want you to get hurt."

She smiled warmly. "My dear, if your father were here, he would have stopped at nothing to protect Hogwarts, and to protect you and your sister. Now that he is gone, I must fight in his place."

My bottom lip trembled, despite my feeble attempts to look strong in front of her. "I'll protect you, Mum. I've become a very strong fighter. I even have new powers now. I'm the heir to—"

"Isolda Peverell," my mother finished. "Yes, I know. I trust now that you know the truth about her."

I frowned. "Yes, I do," I said dully, suddenly feeling frustrated. "Why didn't you just tell me the truth?"

I planned to stand my ground and wait for a reply, before Draco tapped me softly on the shoulder.

"Darling, I know this is important, but we really need to..."

I wanted to kick myself for getting sidetracked. "I'm sorry," I said. I turned back to my mother and Mrs. Weasley. "Voldemort's Army has arrived," I said shortly to the both of them. "Please pass it on. We have less than an hour before they attack."

Mrs. Weasley dashed off into the castle to warn everyone inside while Draco and I went to the others in the courtyard, who were still firing protective spells around the school. We warned them that Voldemort's Army was just beyond the enchantments, and we could see the fear in their eyes as we said Voldemort's name.

I looked back to see my mother sending spells from her wand, although hers were brighter and more forceful than everyone else's. I saw Draco's jaw clench as he watched her.

"What is it?" I asked.

"My parents," he muttered. "I don't know if they came tonight or not."

I put my hand gently on his back. "I'm sure they'll be fine," I said, even though that was a lie. His father had his wand broken in two by Voldemort; I witnessed it myself when I first became a spy. As for Narcissa, she was powerful, but I was certain her main goal would be to find Draco and get him out of harm's way. Even though his parents were not my favorite people in the world, I found myself closing my eyes and saying a prayer for their safety.
