"Are we not going straight home?" You addressed Kenma when he took a left out of the boba shop instead of a right. After that heavy talk over drinks the boys ended up going their own ways home or to other plans. The plan was to go back home and game a bit until Kenma needed to go home. After you asked Kenma paused and reached out his hand for you. He wasn't going to tell you where he wanted to go.

"We'll go home after." He said it plainly, sliding his fingers between yours and walking down the street. It was starting to become evening, the streets starting to dye a pretty orange and street lights flickering on.

"We don't have to hurry. I like being with you so it doesn't matter where we go." You kept by his side, comfortable and trusting. He was a little embarrassed to hear you say it outright but he felt the exact same. Just being around you gave him the kind of comfort he didn't get often. To him, you were his comfort--in the way you felt to hold and the way just your smile made him overflow with serotonin. There were so many things he adored about you that after hearing your story he felt like he needed to do something. He wanted to rewrite your relationship with Volleyball, to make new, better memories to associate it with.

He ended up leading you to a small store that was tucked just out of view from the main row. It was a curious place that you hadn't seen before even though you'd taken the road so many times before. It was unremarkable and plain but it was like Kenma to notice even places like this. He knew exactly where he was going, slipping past display items and to the near back of the store and grabbing two small items. Aside from the initial glance when he picked them up you didn't see what they were, even at checkout. It wasn't until you were both outside that he took your hand again, this time instructing you to keep it held out.

Kenma had bought you a present. Matching bracelets to be exact. They were clearly handmade, using thick black and red waxed cotton cord for the woven pattern while also having several charms added after the bracelet was tied. He fumbled a little nervously while he slipped it around your wrist and then a little more, taking off a couple of the charms and replacing them with ones he got at the counter. A volleyball and a heart. It was a little cheezey to see Kenma do something like this but it ultimately made you feel special. He picked these out specifically for you. His first gift to you was something you could use to not only overwrite your bad experience with something you love but also remind you of the person you love.

A couple seconds after he finished tying yours for you, he did his and seemed satisfied with himself. He wanted his bracelet to be a reminder of you too and it would be. You couldn't decide how to thank him verbally, knowing it wasn't necessarily needed but it was the least you could do for a thoughtful action. Your arms found their way around Kenma in a hug and you smiled to yourself when he hugged you back, taking a deep breath before he was ready to release you and head back.

"I don't want you to lose your passion for volleyball." Although he felt like it was an unfair statement from someone who didn't play volleyball with all his heart, or even because he liked it, he still decided to speak his mind. He imagined what it must feel like to lose passion for something that makes you happy and didn't want that for you. He wanted you to be happy with the little things. Of course he placed his bracelet on his right and your left so that when you held hands you could see both of them.

He didn't stay overnight this time, coming over to play a few hours of Monster Hunter and a little bit of dungeon crawlers before going home for dinner with his parents. When he left you alone again you felt a little longing but not lonely. Recounting the last few days, you're the happiest you've been while your parents were away. It was nice to have a welcoming home back at the school.
