He's Not Here

I was sitting on the doorstep, Sarah, Dan, and Danny standing in front of cameras. I don't know how they could do that, I can't even talk or express how empty I feel. Another car pulled up, and my heart swelled at who got out of the driver's seat. Derek. My Derek.

I let out more sobs, trying breathe properly. I walked over to him, still holding myself.

{Derek's POV}

My heart broke, seeing her coming towards me. Her eyes red and puffy, her hands clutching her sides. "Would you excuse me." I mumbled to Emily. I met her half way. "K-Kyle. He- He's gone." My heart sunk. "This is your nephew." I mumbled, mainly to myself. She let out a sob, making my heart shatter at the sound.

She leaned her head against my chest, her body shaking with every cry that she let out. "We're gonna find him." I said, looping my arms around her waist. "He's only seven." I pulled her face away from my chest, making her look at me. "Babygirl, we'll find him. My team is the best there is, we're gonna find and he's gonna be home. I can't make that a promise, but no matter what happens, I'm right here." I brushed my thumb across her damp cheeks, her eyes looked into mine, still glossy with tears.

"Morgan, we need to get started." Emily said, glancing at Victoria. I sighed, looking back at my girl. "I need to go, but I'm a call away. I'll be back in a few minutes to ask you questions, can you hold tight for a little bit?" She nodded, staring at the ground. I kissed her forehead, letting in linger for a moment.

I walked back, with Rossi. "Mm, new girl?" He said, smirking. "Yeah," I sighed "it's her niece that's missing." He gave her a sympathetic glance, looking at her clutch onto herself. "You should ask her the questions." He said.

"See if she heard anything." I nodded. Rossi went to talk to the police chief, and I went to Victoria. "Hey pretty baby, do you think you can answer some questions for me?" I asked, sitting next to her on the curb. "Will it help you find Kyle?" She asked, resting her head against my shoulder. "Possibly." She quickly nodded her head. "Anything you need to know."

"Did you hear anything last night? Maybe a door closing or window opening." Her eyebrows knitted together, thinking. "I heard glass shatter, at about 7 am maybe? It sounded like it was maybe downstairs." She said softly. "This is a stretch but do you know if Kyle was strangely close to anyone older person? Perhaps the mailman or bus driver?"

She shrugged. "No, I don't." I kissed the crown of her head. "Thanks, baby." She nodded, looking up at me with tears eyes. "What's the probability of you finding him alive?" Her voice trembled. "I think you should get inside. Maybe get something to drink and-"

"What's the probability of you finding him alive?" She asked more sternly. "After a certain amount of time, we will start looking for a body. We like to believe he's still alive." I said quietly. "I think I'm gonna get a hotel room, I don't wanna stay in that house." She said standing up. "Just stay with me baby, I already have a hotel room and I won't be there often, cause of work. Don't spend more money." I offered.

"Okay." She said, her voice was hoarse, from crying most likely. I handed her the second key to the room, before writing down the floor and room number for her. "I'll wait up." She whispered, wrapping her arms around my torso. "Don't wait up for me, pretty girl. You need rest, so go to the hotel, get something to eat, and relax." I kissed her forehead, letting my hands rest on the small of her back.

"I gotta go now, Victoria. See you later babygirl." She nodded. "See you later bubba." She kissed my cheek, trudging towards the house. Her eyes started tearing up again. I sighed. "Victoria!" She walked back over, wiping her tears. "Yeah?" "Just go to the hotel, I'll grab what you need and you can just wear my hoodie if you want." I said, wiping my thumb across her cheek.

"How did you-" "I can see it in your pretty eyes, you don't wanna go in there. So just go to the hotel, get in my hoodie, and take a nap." I kissed her softly, slotting her bottom lip between my own. "Bye Derek." She mumbled softly, pulling away. "Bye babygirl." I replied.

{Victoria's POV}

It was nearing 2 in the morning, and I was waiting for Derek to get here. He told me not to, but I couldn't sleep and I needed him to hold me. I was clad in only his hoodie, my hair up in a messy bun.

His hoodie made it just to my thighs, barely covering my butt. When I heard the room door open, my stomach filled with butterflies. I could feel that he was trying to be quiet. "You don't need to be extra quiet, I'm awake." I said softly. I turned on the lamp beside the bed. He looked tired.

"I thought I told you not to wait up." He whispered. "I couldn't sleep." He nodded in understanding. "Do you need anything? Water, food?" He asked, taking his shoes off. "I just need you to hold me." I mumbled. He looked at me, a soft smile spreading on his face.

"Give me a second to wash up baby." He said, heading to the bathroom. He came back a few minutes later in only his sweatpants, his abs on full display. I shamelessly stared at them, earning a chuckle from the man himself. "You're staring." I hummed, "What can I say? My boyfriend is pretty damn hot." He slid under the covers, pulling my body on top of his. My legs rested on either side of his waist, his hands on my thighs.

"You can talk to me Victoria. You don't have to push things down, but don't feel pressured to tell me if you aren't ready." He spoke softly, kissing my forehead. "I know." I said, still pushing down the feeling of worry and guilt. There was a little boy, my little nephew out in the world because some psycho took him. "Do you have any leads?" I asked. "I can't really tell you baby." He said. I groaned, rolling off of him.

"Babygirl-" "Don't Derek. Just fucking don't. You can't fix this okay? Just get that through your head. You can't play hero this time." I snapped, instantly regretting it. "Mmk." He muttered, rolling onto his side.

He was doing his best and I just shot him down. "I'm sorry I just-" "You're worried and frustrated. I know. You feel guilty because you couldn't protect him, although it's in no way your fault. All you want is for him to be home with your sister. I know." He didn't look at me, his back facing me.

I scooted towards him, pressing a kiss to his shoulder. "Thank you, baby boy." His muscles relaxed. He turned around, hiding his face in my neck. "I didn't think you were the small spoon type." I whispered softly.

"I'm usually not, but you're not the only one who needs to be held." He whispered. I leaned over, turning the light off. "Get rest then bubby boy." He kisses him lightly, before getting some rest for myself.
