His eyes, his smile, his touch – god, everything about him sent Xerexis' heart a flutter. His jokes, his puns, his excitement. Xerexis was surely in love.

And now I think I am possessed

At first, Xerexis had thought Grian nothing more than a prize to be won. Nothing more than something to try and take from the hermits.

You put a fever inside me

But they'd quickly realised that Grian was so much more than that. He was precious, and Xerexis wouldn't let anything take Grian away from them.

And I've been cold since you left

Not until Mumbo had come along and snatched Grian away. Without Grian there, Xerexis felt lonely, and cold. Empty, without anyone or anything.

I've got a boyfriend now and he's made of gold

When Xerexis learned of Grian and Mumbo's new status, they were furious. Grian was supposed to be theirs, and only theirs.

And you've got your own mistakes in a bed at home

So, they'd picked up Wels. Manipulated the knight into falling for them, if only to make Grian jealous. Make Grian give up Mumbo for Xerexis.

I'm hoping you can save me now, but you break and fold

They knew they were in it far to deep by then, and Grian was no help. Something must have worked, since Grian was by Xerexis' side soon enough.

Grian was always passionate, and carefree and loving. But he seemed to lock that away and hide it from Xerexis. He kept Xerexis wanting, needing, but Grian wouldn't give.

Cause I've done some things that I can't speak

What Xerexis didn't know, was that Grian knew what he was doing. And he'd done it before, to others.

And I try to wash you away, but you just won't leave

Xerexis had realised far to late that Grian was going to be bad for them, but they couldn't get rid of Grian. And maybe they didn't want to, because their heart still fluttered at the gentlest touch from Grian, and they still craved to hear Grian's voice.

Grian finally extended an offer to Xerexis, one afternoon in September. Stay with him. Forever and always.

Everything in Xerexis told them to deny the offer.

At first, it was wonderful. Grian was affectionate and offered Xerexis the warmth and love they craved. They were a solid, loving couple, despite the disapproving looks that the others would give them.

And we have roots like the trees

They were happy, and that was what mattered to Xerexis. They were happy. They were loved. And It was all thanks to Grian.

And see your eyes as you wander

They were going for a walk, one April morning, Xerexis hanging off Grian's arm like usual, when they noticed.

Cause they weren't looking at me

Instead of paying Xerexis any attention, Grian was staring off at something.

Or someone.

Impulse was across the park, chatting to Zedaph and Tango. The latter two were in a committed relationship, Xerexis knew that. So Grian must have been staring at Impulse.

And I try to wash you away, but you just won't leave

And then Xerexis realised that Grian was trying to brush him off. Trying to make them leave.

Xerexis was heartbroken.

So they left, and watched as Grian snapped up Impulse as fast as he could.

They watched as Grian flustered Impulse with everything he did.

They watched as Grian twisted Impulse around his little finger.

They watched as Impulse continued to follow Grian like a lost puppy dog, love struck.

They watched as the cycle repeated, with Impulse in Xerexis' position.

And they couldn't help but bitterly laugh.
