"I have to put this in my mouth for a whole month?" the Irish witch asked, eyes narrowed to the peculiar leaf on her hand. The Gryffindor's boy nodded with a grin, they stood on one of the empty pathways.
"Are you serious?"
"I am!" Sirius grinned, almost immediately the witch smacked him in the arm. "Ow!" he caressed his arm with eyes narrowed before he went on, "Keep it in your mouth, be careful to not swallow it! James and I did that twice—tasted like rubbish. If you swallow it you have to start over."
Gemma groaned, she had never thought to be an animagus was that hard. She puckered her lips as she looked at the leaf and back at Sirius, "What is this anyway?"
"Mandrake leaf." replied Sirius smugly.
"Those screaming root?"
"Yup."
She blinked rapidly, "How did you even get it?"
Sirius grinned mischievously as he looked down at the confused girl, "I will tell you if you tell me why do you want to be animagus." he said in a hush.
She furrowed her brows, "No, thanks."
Sirius rolled his eyes playfully, moving his hands in the air, "Really, Merlin?" he arched an eyebrow, as she tucked the leaf into her robe. "My friends and I shared our deepest darkest secret and you don't want to tell me."
"Nope, If I remember I saved your arse." Gemma pointed smugly, "I also remember how you told me and I quote: You saved me, Gemma. Oh, I can never repay you."
The witch grinned smugly as the Gryffindor's boy rolled his eyes. The girl used his own words against him, nevertheless, he stared down at her. A bright smile appeared on her freckled face, and that smile alone glosse his heart with warmth. Sirius had never told her, how her demeanor resembled a certain boy who used to be this much cheerful, and lively. And pehaps, that was what made Sirius stick close to the Ravenclaw girl, all these years.
Moreover, their similarity in supposed to be in Slytherin and the fact that the both of them defied their family tradition, made him felt not so alone. Resonating to the annoyance, anger, and a pinch of self-disappointment made him wanted to show her that there was nothing wrong with that. That left a space for his protectiveness to the girl.
