Lyn really is something else. She tookthree weeks of detention just so I wouldn'tget in trouble. I feel as though there shouldbe a law against how easy somebody can becontrolled. I just still don't understand why I don't deserve to be treated kinder by her, yes, I did what I did, but the outcome washer own choice, and for that, she's an idiot.Anyway, I'm hanging out withCourtney in a few, because I wanted to tellher about my new sexual encounter. I wasstanding just beyond the schoolyard waitingfor Courtney's gold SUV. Once it pulled upbeside me, I crawled in. We stared at eachother for a moment which immediatelybegan the laughter."I have news for you!" We sangtogether. I told her to continue with hernews as she got back over onto the mainroad."I'm pregnant." She blurted. I chokedin twelve different languages. I could feelmy cheeks getting hot, and fists quenched, gripping onto my purse as tightly as possible."LeighAnn?" Courtney said, breakingme from my glare. "Aren't you going to sayanything?" I turned to look at her giving hermy best fake smile. "Awesome." I snapped."What is wrong with you?" I threwmy purse on the floorboard of her SUV andlooked at her."I told you that I wanted Christopherand I to do stuff before you and your beau, and then you tell me you're expecting?" Ithink I sounded more disappointed thanangry."LeighAnn, I have been done thingslong before I met you, so tell me, why areyou mad? I have done nothing but beenmyself.""Being yourself means being a slut?" Isnapped. Courtney braked and we wereboth thrown back in our seats. I glared ather asking if she was crazy."Get out." She didn't look at me. Itried to argue with her that she couldn'tdrop me off on the side of the road but shejust reached over me and opened the door.I huffed under my breath and gathered mybelongings, leaving her car with a slam of the door. I watched as she drove away. Iplaced my purse down on the concrete andcontacted Christopher's mom. I told herwhere I was and begged her to come pickme up.Once at Christopher's parents' house,I sat on the couch. Lyn came walking infrom the kitchen with her phone in onehand and a glass of water in the other."Lyn!" I called, causing her to jumpout of her skin and send her phone flying. Her face turned red out of embarrassment.I invited her to join me on the couch, andshe did. I started ranting to her about thesituation with Courtney."That doesn't make any sense." Lynlacked eye contact with me. I brushed it offand agreed with her that it was nonsense."No, I mean it doesn't make sense whyyou're mad. Courtney has probably beenthis way since before you met, but you'remad at her now because she fooled aroundand go pregnant before you lost your v card to my brother? That's the dumbest thing Ihave ever heard." I curled my lip. I can'tbelieve she's on Courtney's side! After amoment of awkward silence, Lyn dismissedherself to pick up her phone. She flipped itover to check it and a look ofdisappointment spawned across her face. Igot a quick glance, and her phone was morecracked than an ancient gravel road. Ichuckled once she disappeared into herroom. After what felt like hours, I ran intoChristopher's arms when he came throughthe door. He smelled heavily of skunk, which I assumed was just burnt firewoodfrom his job, and convinced him to shower.Once he was fresh and clean, I still noticedthe scent on him, especially when I went tokiss him. It was all over his breath. Iquestioned him about it, he laughed."You're confusing the smell of skunkwith the smell of pot." I gave him aperplexed look. This was the most disgusting weed I have ever sniffed in mylife. I then proceeded to ask him who hewas with that had custody of the drug, andhe confessed to me that it was Brad,Courtney's baby daddy. I had forgotten thatthey worked together, and apparently, they're a lot closer than I thought."So, you know about Courtney?" Iasked. He nodded his head."Brad had to be higher than theEmpire State Building to tell me, but yeah."Typical Brad. He's not ready for the positionof fatherhood. I can't believe my boyfriendis best friends with him either. It's a recipefor disaster. I folded my arms and told himthat he better not get any ideas. He becamepissy and claimed that he couldn't believe Ithought he was that type of man."What do you mean 'that type ofman'?" I asked."Just because Brad got his girlimpregnated, you think I would go aheadand do that." I rolled my eyes. Was I completely over my head to think that? It'slike Christopher is always playing a game of'Simon Says' with his friends but he's neverSimon. If his friends said or did something, then Christopher had to follow them. In thisscenario, Brad was going into fatherhood,so I was under the impression thatChristopher would want that too."Besides," Christopher continued. "Ifthis was too happen to us, I wouldn't leaveyou." I looked at him confused. "Brad isgoing to break up with her.""How do you know?""He told me.""He was intoxicated. You don't knowif he was serious. People say randomthoughts all the time when they're underthe influence.""He told the truth about becoming afather." Touché, I thought. We raided hisparent's fridge and Christopher pulled putall the essentials to make a sandwich, Iswear those are his favorite food. I declined an offer for one and instead grabbed thepeanut butter and jelly, mixing themtogether in a bowl, and then eating it byspoonful. After we stuffed our faces, weheaded over to the apartment."I think Courtney is faking herpregnancy as an attempt to trap Brad. Onceshe has him, she's going to tell everybodythat she had a miscarriage in order to seekattention." I was making an accusationsimply based off of logic. Courtney is in highschool. Surely, nobody wants to raise ababy without a diploma! So, I accused herof fraud, but only to Christopher. She'sgoing to make people excited for her, onlyto have their hopes shattered at the endwith a big lie.Courtney stopped showing up toschool but word about me being flusteredspread faster than a torpedo. The entireschool body was worried about me andafter every class, my teacher wanted tospeak with me. If that wasn't bad enough, principals and counselors stopped me inbetween my classes. They all wanted tomake sure I wasn't going to throw hands atCourtney. The worst accusation of all wasthe one given by my Nursing Essentialsteacher. She kept me the longest to assureme that I wasn't going to follow Courtney'sfootsteps and conceive in high school, andthen she proceeded to tell me about thedangers of unprotected sex.Instead of making my way to my nextclass, I snuck to the restroom and dialed myAunt Meghan. Originally, I asked her if she'dcome pick me up, ignorant to the fact thatshe lived in Hartwell, a town that was anhour and a half away.Even though she was my aunt, shewas more of my best friend than Courtneyand Taylor have ever been. When situationsoccur, she's the one I want to run too. Mymom is never a big help and my grandmausually leaves me in tears due to her brutalhonesty. Aunt Meghan is the only one who doesn't make my anxiety skyrocket to themoon and back. Her, and Christopher, ofcourse. At the end of the day, I knew AuntMeghan was going to tell my grandma Iused my phone during school hours, so Iwent ahead and told her everything via textmessage. Even though I illegally moved outof Grandma's house, she is still my legalguardian, so until I'm eighteen, everythingthat I do, falls back on her. That's why I stillvisit her every so often; I figured that it willprove that she can still trust me.
