It was nearing the middle ofSeptember, and Lyn's birthday. Christopherjust finished explaining that she wants to gosee the new horror movie that came outthe chow down at her favorite burger joint. My heart hurt at the fact that I wasn'tinvited. I convinced Christopher to drive tohis mom's and once we got there, I rushedinside making myself almost completely out of breath by the time I reached Lyn'sbedroom door.I knocked on the door lightly but gotno response. I waited a few minutes beforeknocking again, this time banging on thedoor loud enough the aliens on mars couldhear."Come in!" Lyn yelled louder than myknock. Her door is never unlocked so I wasconfused that I was able to walk right in.Lyn was sitting crisscrossed on her bed, earbuds blaring Justin Bieber through hereardrums. She was focused in her laptop, her fingers going a mile a minute. I walkedover to see what she was so passionateabout. She appeared to be writing a novel, fanfiction of some sort. I took her a minuteto notice me. She stared at me blankly withparted lips and I took that as my cue tospeak."I heard your birthday is coming up."She smiled slightly and turned her headback to her laptop. I continued. "Anyway, I just wanted to know if I could come too."She didn't look at me, but I watched as herupper lip slid upwards, creating a stank face. She looked this way for a solid minutebefore finally speaking."I really just wanted my mom,Christopher, and I.""What about your dad?""He doesn't like horror movies.""Well good, then I can replace him.""LeighAnn, you're not-""Case closed; I get to come in place ofyour dad. Thanks so much Lyn." I tried tosound sincere and excited, which I was. I'mhappy Lyn is letting me come. It's anopportunity to bond with Christopher andhis mom and show Lyn that I'm not all bad. Iwas stoked to tell Christopher the goodnews."Really, are you sure?" He asked."Yeah, why would Lyn not invite me?""Since I overheard a conversationbetween her and my mom where Lyn claimed she hated Lincoln high and wantednothing to do with the kids in it.""Well, I'm not those kids. I'mLeighAnn. I'm family." I mentioned proudly.Christopher shrugged.Getting ready to go, I threw on a'Simply Southern' tee shirt with khaki bootyshorts and put half my hair into a bun andstraightened the rest. I slipped on mymadden sandals while Christopher wore thesame soccer shorts he slept in and threw ahoodie over his shoulders. Lyn's hair wascompletely straight and she slayed an offshoulder blue and orange blouse, blackjeggings, and black leather cowboy bootswith an half inch heel. I may not like Lyn,but the girl can dress. We hung out in the living room whilewe waited for Lyn's mom to finishshowering. Lyn kept herself occupied in hercell, and I tried to focus on the televisioninstead of her. Once Lyn's mom was ready, we piled into her burnt orange Chevy cruiseand made our way to Augusta. The movie was three hours long andit was quite funny for a scary movie. It wasmy first time eating at 'Gourmet Burgers'and I'm not really a fan. Lyn was quiet anddevoured her food until I asked her to takea selfie with me. She nodded and smiledpretty. The picture came out nice eventhough only half of my face was in it and itfocused mostly on Lyn. I know it's herbirthday but she doesn't have to be soconceded. Lyn excused herself to go to thebathroom and I texted the picture to her.A few moments later, my phonepinged with a notification that Lyn taggedme in an Instagram post. I opened thenotification and saw the picture we justtook with a caption that talked about herbirthday and how 'pretty I am.' I doubletapped the photo but didn't commentanything. Everybody was almost done withtheir meals except for me, I only took twobites."What's wrong with you?" Lyn's momasked. I shrugged."This place is trash.""Nobody asked you to come." Ijumped at the sound of Lyn's voice. Shewasn't supposed to hear me."I wanted too.""For what reason?" Lyn's face wasred now. "So you could try and convince methat you're a good person? No, you justwanted a free meal and a free movie, andquite frankly, I do not care that you didn'tenjoy yourself. This is my day. The worlddoesn't revolve around LeighAnn, and oneday you're going to learn that." Lyn's momtold her to stop and Christopher told her toshut up."You're a bitch." The words justflowed out of my mouth. Lyn bursts intotears and ran out the front door. The other three of us remained at the table until thefood was paid for. Lyn's mom rushed outthe door to find her. She wasn't anywherearound the restaurant or the Chevy, andshe was ignoring her phone. Her momstarted to panic and we got into the car andheaded to the nearest police station. Just asshe was climbing out of the car, Lyn finallytexted her."I'm okay. I'm at Fran'shouse." Her mom relaxed a lot. Fran isthe only person in Lincoln that actually likesLyn, but then again, she likes everybody.Fran is a very happy-go-lucky type of girl.I heard the car speakers ring, wakingme from my thoughts. Lyn's voice camethrough."Hello?""How did you get to Fran's?""I walked. She lives in Augusta.""Don't scare me like that again. Havea good time, I love you." "I love you too mama." Lyn saidbefore hanging up. I cringed. Lyn doesn'tlove her mom. She wouldn't have given hersuch a scare if she did. How incredibly awfulis it that Lyn lies and her mom has no idea.It completely breaks my heart.Maybe I should contact her, set herstraight. I know how it feels to have a momwho doesn't care, but Lyn is the one whodoesn't care in this situation. That's myproblem; that's why I'm so angry; that....Lyn.Lyn is the problem.
