The following school year wascomplete chaos. Nobody, including myselfcould keep their eyes off of Lyn. She wasthe center of everything; attention, gossip. Her style was loud and spunky; she wore adifferent color nail polish everyday tomatch her outfits and rocked a new hairdoeveryday as well. For once, it almost feltgood to not be the center of attention, especially with my growing chest and belly.Christopher and I were walking toclass one morning when I bumped into theback of somebody. I looked up and saw acrowd of people surrounding Lyn and a girlnamed Macy. Macy is a tiny girl, whoweighs about 110 pounds, but she's got onehell of an ego. She also happens to beWright's girlfriend."Admit it," Macy demanded to Lyn."Admit that you missed school last yearbecause you were pregnant!" Lyn justlaughed hysterically. "Why would it matter so much? Areyou jealous because you can't have kids?"Lyn blurted. Macy gasped."How do you know that?" As it turnsout, Macy has Ovarian Cyst Syndrome, which makes her chances of ever conceivingslim to none; and Lyn made sure the wholeschool knew that. Macy was almost in tearsnow."I also know that Wright cheats onyou." Lyn nodded. The tears that Macy triedto hold back were flowing now."Prove it then," Macy regrettedsaying those words as soon as they cameout. Lyn shot her a devious look, approached Wright, and pulled him downto her by his shirt. She kissed him long andhard and we could hear Wright moan as histestosterone increased and his handsmacked Lyn on her butt. Lyn released himand walked over to Macy, licking her lips."He's wanted to do that for a longtime." Lyn enforced in Macy's face before walking away. I noticed Dr. How hidingbehind the crowd and approached him."You're not going to do anythingabout that?" I asked, pointing in thedirection of the River Macy with Wrighttrying to comfort her. Dr. How shook hishead."I'm afraid not. I've decided to letstudents handle their own problems thisyear." He didn't even look at me when hespoke."You're the principal, and this is aschool." I tried."So, I'll handle issues that deal withacademics but personal issues need to beworked out amongst the students alone.""Students can get hurt! Christopherbeat the hell out of Wright and almost gotarrested. Is that the type of reputation youwant for the school?""Not my problem." I screamed at hisresponse and stomped my way back over toChristopher. The stomping hurt my tummy so I held it with both my hands and thencame up with an idea."Hey!" I shouted through thecrowded hallways of school, capturing theattention of everyone, including Lyn, Wright, and Macy. I took a deep breath. Lyn betterthank me for this. "Lyn wasn't pregnant, butI am!" I almost wish I had never said thosewords, especially because it was the firsttime Christopher was hearing this. I lookedright over him to glance at Lyn who wasgiving me a karma-is-a-bitch grin."LeighAnn," Christopher called, shaking my shoulder. I looked at him. "Areyou serious?" He was calm. I was threemonths pregnant now, and had a smallpudge."Yes," tears filled my eyes as I lookedinto his but they never fell. "You haven'tnoticed me getting fat?" Christopherlaughed."LeighAnn, I'm fat. Of course Iwouldn't no-" he paused and his eyes grew wide. "I have to marry you now, LeighAnn,will you marry me?""No. I mean, not like this. We're inhigh school.""We can elope.""Hello? We're underage?""Fake ID's.""No, No, No. We need permissionfrom our parents, and then I want a realproposal and a huge wedding.""Then we'll get our parents togetherafter school and ask them.""Why wait? Let's go now."Christopher shrugged his shoulders and wewalked right out the front doors of theschool building, nobody stopping us, and Dr.How didn't seem to give a care. We got tothe pathfinder, which we ended up rescuing form the impound lot, driving it with asmashed hood and all, and made a plan togo pick up my mom and then visitChristopher's mom at work during her lunchbreak. My mom took ages to get ready, sowe had to haul ass to Christopher's mom. Itwas my first time seeing her in work attire, and she looked so professional in herlavender scrubs. We all went through thecafeteria line and gathered our trays andthen sat down at a long grey table withuncomfortable blue stools for seats."What's up?" Christopher's momasked, obviously knowing that it wassomething serious. Christopher took a biteof his food, wiped the side of his mouthwith his napkin then just blurted out thequestion to both of our moms."How would you two feel about usgetting married?""Married?" Our moms asked at thesame time and then laughed. They stoppedwhen they realized the neither LeighAnnnor I were laughing too. "It's good to know that you arethinking about the future." Christopher'smom implied. Christopher shook his head."Not too far into the future,"Christopher started. "Sometime soon, within the next few months or weeks ifpossible." Christopher's mom gave us aconfused look."You are in high school. Why wouldyou go do something crazy like that?" Mymom butted in. I felt myself tense because Iknew it was finally time for our moms tofind out. I looked at Christopher and gavehim a half nod, letting him know that it wasokay to tell them; I was ready. Christophergrabbed my hand underneath the table."We've got somebody joining us in-" Christopher paused when he realized thathe didn't know how far along I was. Hewhispered the question in my ear."Three months," I refused to look athim when I responded. "You knew for three months anddidn't tell me?" Christopher whisper yelled.I put my hands in between my thighs andshrugged my shoulders."LeighAnn, what is it?" My momasked."They're pregnant." Christopher'smom explained. My mom hopped up anddown in joy and hugged us both.Christopher's mom tried to smile but I couldsee the disappointment on her face."You think you can plan a wedding insix months?" Christopher's mom asked. Inodded my head. "It'll be a lot of stress onyou, and stress isn't good for the baby.""It'll be a small one, but still thewedding of my dreams." I lied."Okay." Christopher's mom agreed."So, you're okay with this?"Christopher asked his mom."I'm highly disappointed, but you twomade the decision and I'll have to acceptthat." I got excited now and hugged her, wanting to start the wedding planning rightaway.
