MagnoliaI awake from a deep uninviting sleep, fluttering my eyes open. My eyelids argue otherwise, cemented together like magnets. My body's entirety aching with pure agony.
Autopilot mode kicks in, readying myself for practice I didn't want to attend. I scurry through my room, tossing things on over my tired decrepit limps. Gazing at the sweater I slept in, Harry's sweater. It's black with a faded Gibson logo on it. Fluffy fleece inside, a hug in an item of clothing. I couldn't not imagine him while wearing it, his smile. That goddamn smile. Not to mention it smelled like his essence, some sort of cologne or scent I only correlated with him.
Shit. My bag is in his car....
I rush to my cell, dialing his number. It rings continuously, like an eternity of buzzing. Though he doesn't answer. I huff out a frustrated breath. Hurrying to get myself fixed up further. Answer your phone you idiot...
"I called you like five times.." I chasten, pacing around the front lawn."I know i'm sorry my phone was in a locker with my stuff." His voice is like music to my ears, putting a faint smile right on my lips.
"Okay so... where are you?" My tone sounds desperate but I couldn't care less. I needed my bag. "At the rink? Cause I need my bag, I think I left it in your car." My teeth bit my lip as a reflex, I can hear shuffling on the line. As he goes to answer.
"Oh, no, I'm at a game in Eugene." He paces, chatter arises from the phone. Dozens of voices other than him.
"What? Fucks sake." I mumble, racking my brain. "I need my bag, it has all my equipment in it, my skates.. and-"
"Shit. It's the bright orange one right?"
"Yeah. Yeah that one. Is it with you?" I fluster
"No shit, it's in my car back at my place. I gotta ride here.." He huffs, even with the commotion, I can hear the worried tone of his voice.
"Well can you give me the address? I don't fully know how to get there..." I quip, tucking myself into my car. The keys in the ignition, it rumbles.
"Magnolia, it's an hour drive from the resort.. I can just bring it to you tonight or tomorrow mornin'."
"I don't care, just give me the directions." My tone is more sassy than I intended. When it comes out I'm shocked by it's spice.
"You sure?" He mutters sweetly
"Yes. Okay?" The bitterness is right in center but I can't stop. Why are you being mean to him...
"Okay....." He draws out, as if to say something was up. Which it was, he just couldn't know that.. God Indigo. Why did we have to get into a fight on this week of all days?
"I'll text 'em to you, just drive safe..."
"Yeah-yeah."I stopped with the sass, knowing damn well that made my heart melt.
You. Are. Friends.
My car weaves, swaying with the curves of the road. It looks at the same, tall overbearing trees or miles and miles on, little windows pointing out to the coast. And yet it all felt familiar, like home on a cold foggy morning. Green shrubbery and plants that grew my heart big as the sun.
The leaves painting stunning pictures with the beams of sunlight, waving ever so sweetly in the soft whooshing breezes. A fresh scent in the air you just wanted to breathe in forever.
