A few days ago....
Practice wasn't much to look forward to, not now when Meg was actively avoiding me. I can't blame her, things were rough and I said... stuff I want to regret but don't since it did the job. Perfectly keeping her away from me. I would be a liar if I didn't say that night scared me, how vulnerable I was. The state she saw me in, I honestly thought that was enough to drive her away. And then she stayed, frightening me further. The problem was I didn't understand why. Why she cared, why she didn't run for the hills right as she saw me panicking. Why didn't she leave me?
The ice was colder than normal, but just as shiny. My eyes struggle to not get those in the sparkling skate marks. I take myself from the ice, following the flock of players to the locker room. Rory pats my back, shooting finger guns at me.
"I didn't realize how damn good you are getting at goalie, shit you might be taking my position soon." Rory innocently smiles.
"Not a chance coach loves me on the left-wing." I scoff, he shrugs his shoulder. Trailing to the other side of the lockers and shuffling to unlock it. I do the same, taking my key and putting in the padlock securing mine closed.
"Nice nails, your girlfriend paint them for you?" Cliff chuckles beside me, sloppily shoving his bag into the small surface of the locker. I clench my jaw, composing myself and keeping my monotone face.
"No, actually Magnolia did.." He burst out into laughter, more than just the small simpers from before. But I ignore him, piercing my eyes into my gym bag instead of being rash.
"Didn't know that hussy did anything more than prance around the ice in her pretty little leotards.."
"What the fuck did you say?" I snap, Cliffs' eyes widen as I flick my head to look at him. Now my monotonousness is wiped, and my temper has seemed to float away all at once. He gulps, tentatively smiling as I can see my switch in behavior unsettled him. Fury blazes through me, I challenge him.
He plays off his nervousness, moving his hair back. I keep my direct eye contact. "Dude chill, it was just a joke.... Why do you have your panties in a twist over that prude." Oh so she's a prude and a hussy?
"Say that again. I fucking dare you!" I shove Cliff. With the coldness of my voice heads are turned in the locker room. Everyone was staring at us and I didn't give one shit. Cliff's eyes go wide, he steps further from me. Now clearly unnerved by my aggression. Remaining quiet, not having anything to say.
"Go on, don't pussy out now." I seethe, storming from the pure rage in my body. Again he keeps quiet, opposed to how he usually can't shut the fuck up.
Cliff gets brave, grinning while looking around the room. Assuming his new coming courage came from wanting to be big man on campus, though it could just be his agonizing stupidity. "Cmon Styles you know i'm right." That was the last straw before he was on the ground and I was pounding his face with my fists. Letting them, which had rings on, take control of the situation. I got in a few good hits before some of the boys ripped me off of him.
But when with the ruckus of my getting tossed against the lockers my hostility didn't soothe, not in the slightest. "Harry, take a deep breath, it's not worth it." Rory tries to help, but my eyes are glued to Cliff who is sitting up from the floor with a bloody nose. "It's damn worth it." I spit. They continue to hold me back, registering the I was still in fact ready to beat him to a bloody pulp.
