A X E L - N I C O L Á S

Nightfall came, and I couldn't help but lie awake the entire night. My mind was racing with ideas and worries, most of them about Suri's safety. I know things are still fresh with her, and although she's not my girlfriend, I love her more than anything. I can see she's bright and has an illuminating future ahead of her. I can't help to think that I've fucked all of that up because of my own selfish reasons, and I could never apologize enough about that.

The moon's light seeped through the white curtains that were hanging on the nearby window. There was a slight breeze that whipped through the crack of the window and blanketed the room, it was just the right temperature.

I turned my head to face Suri, watching as she slept anything but peacefully. She flipped and tossed for the entire time she slept, so I know she's having it rough. I slid closer to her, gently placing my arm over her body, and she nestled into my chest.

Her breathing was shallow, lips poked out into the cutest pout, and eyebrows furrowed. I kissed her forehead, sighing as I looked out the window at the moon. I wish things hadn't taken a sudden turn like this...

...

Sunlight filtered through the curtains and cast a bright beam of light on the bedroom itself. I had gotten a little bit of sleep, not much to really bring much satisfaction though.

I cracked an eye open to see Suri still asleep. I don't want to come off as a creep, but I couldn't help watching as she slept. She's such a sweet girl, and doesn't deserve to be in this kind of bullshit because of my ego. I swear, I have to make this right.

She starts to stir in her sleep, and before long, her brown orbs were staring back at mine. "Good morning." She mutters against her hand as she stretches.

"Buenos dias, amor. How did you sleep?" I ask.

She smacks her teeth. "No better than what you did. You kept moving around, and I actually had a really bad nightmare for the first time in years."

"I kinda felt like you did, you were mumbling some stuff in your sleep. I didn't catch it though. Also, my apologies for disturbing your sleep."

She smirks. "It's okay, just means we'll have to guzzle as many energy drinks as we can to make it through the day. Where are we headed to anyway?"

"Selish Falls, Montana. It's about a ten hour drive from here." I respond as I start to sit up, pressing my feet against the cold hardwood floor.

I could hear her groaning and turned my head slightly to see her face covered with a pillow. I laugh. "—C'mon, it won't be so bad. Besides, it gives us time to share plenty more road songs."

The pillow hits smack dab across my face, but not in an aggressive way. I chuckle as I take the pillow and slap it across her legs.

"If we have to sing ninety-nine bottles of beer again, I'm ejecting myself from the car while it's in motion." She says, a playful grin spread across her face.
