Worry

Kya was bubbly the day after she went out with Lin, but as more and more days passed that excitement morphed into worry. She hadn't seen or even spoke to Lin since that night. Kya sat on the steps outside the temple, getting away from her family, so she could think. She said she wasn't confused anymore, but what does that mean? I thought it meant another date, or at least a phone call, but it's been 3 days... While she was deep in thought, Bumi noticed Kya through a window.

"Kya, are you alright?" Bumi interrupted her anxious thoughts.

He caught Kya by surprise. She hadn't even known he was there. "What- Oh yeah, I'm fine, just thinking is all."

Bumi frowned, clearly not buying Kya saying she was fine. "Well, what're you thinking about? Must be pretty important."

Kya looked out towards the shore of the island, avoiding Bumi's eyes. He always knew when something was bothering her, but how was she supposed to tell him about this? If she said the wrong thing, then he'd know she went out with Lin. She decided to play it vague, "There's this girl..."

"Ooooohhh, a girl!" Bumi said excitedly, "Did something happen between you and this...girl?" He grinned mockingly.

"Well, yes. Maybe not. I don't know." Kya could tell she was about to spill her guts, "You see... I've liked her for a while, but I didn't know if she liked me like that. But then the other night we went out together and it was great! And it ended... Well, she kissed me."

Bumi nodded quietly to encourage his sister to keep going.

"Anyways, it's been a few days, and she hasn't seen me, or called me and I'm starting to get worried it was all a fluke..." Kya's voice trailed off and her eyes became sad. She really wanted what happened to have been real.

Bumi put his arm around his sister, "Why don't you just go see her? I mean, maybe she's waiting for you to reach out."

Kya hadn't thought of that. As far as she knew, this was Lin's first relationship with a woman, it would make sense as to why she wasn't reaching out first. Kya's eyes gleamed with hope. "You're right, Bumi. I should go see her." Kya stood and turned to walk up the steps, but before she could, Bumi grabbed her wrist and pulled her into a hug. "Thanks, Bumi. You always know when I need a hug."

Lin had been a wreck for the past three days. At work, she was beyond distracted, all she could think about was Kya. After their kiss Lin was elated, but Kya hadn't spoken to her since. She was beginning to worry she had scared Kya off by being too forward. Lin placed her head in her hands and sighed out of frustration. How did I already mess this up?! It just started!

A knock at her office door jarred her out of her thoughts. "What?" She growled.

"Chief," Mako said, slightly opening the door, "Someone's here to see you."

"Not right now," Lin said sternly. She really did not have the patience to be talking to anyone at this moment. Plus, it was probably someone who wanted something from her, which would just annoy her more.

Suddenly, someone pushed through the door.

"Hey! You can't go in there! She said no!" Mako grunted as he was shoved aside.

Kya stood on the other side of Lin's desk, "You really weren't gonna see me? When I came all the here?" she said with a grin.

Lin's cheeks grew red, "Mako," she snapped, "Get out of here."

"But Chief, you said you didn't want to see anyone."

"It's fine. Now... Get. Out."

As Kya took a seat, Lin locked the door to her office by metalbending. "What are you doing here Kya?"

"I came to see you. Is that a crime all of the sudden?"

Lin looked away, crossing her arms, "I thought you didn't want to see me."

"I thought that you didn't want to see me."

Lin turned back towards Kya, raising her eyebrows in confusion, "What? I was perfectly clear that I wanted to see you again."

"Umm... No you weren't." Lin frowned. "It's okay. I wasn't clear either. We apparently have to work on our communication skills."

"So... Now what?"

"Well, now that we know we both want to see each other, I think it's time we go on a proper date," Kya grinned.

"Do you have something specific in mind?" Lin felt as though Kya already had a whole night planned.

"Yes," Kya said. She stepped towards Lin and whispered into her ear, making the earthbender shudder, "Yes, I do."
