Lin sat in her office, her desk littered with paperwork. Earlier that morning, her and her officers had broken up a fight between the Creeping Crystals and the Agni Kais. The conflict was undoubtedly caused by the recent destruction of the city. This upheaval had caused city wide turf wars. Lin had been on the scene, and was able to arrest most of the combatants. This was good for the city of course, but it also meant a lot of paperwork.

As the clock neared midnight, Lin finished her last report. She exited her office and stepped into the bullpen. It was a mess. Many officers had left their desks covered with unfinished paperwork and gone home for the day. Lin sighed and began making her way towards the door, she would have to speak to her officers about the disarray tomorrow. Just as she was pushing the exit open she heard a familiar voice behind her. "Hey Chief! Wait!"

Lin turned to see Mako rushing towards her. "What are you still doing here kid?" she asked.

"I still have to finish up some reports. I didn't want to leave without finishing them" Mako replied.

Lin raised her eyebrows in surprise. Mako was more committed to the job than she thought.

"Uh anyways... Asami wanted me to give this to you." Mako pulled an envelope out of his jacket pocket. "Korra's birthday is Saturday and Asami's throwing her a party. Everyone's gonna be there."

Lin took the invitation and opened the seal. Inside was a blue piece of card stock with white lettering.

Chief Lin Beifong,

You are invited to Avatar Korra's birthday party! The festivities begin at noon on Saturday on air temple island. Please join us for some food, dancing, and fun!

Hope to see you then,
Asami and Korra

Mako watched as Lin read over the letter. "So should I tell them you can make it or..."

Lin rolled her eyes at the idea of a party, but she thought it may be a good time to speak to Tenzin and Asami about the reconstruction of the city. The sooner the streets get cleaned up, the less triad fighting she has to deal with. "I'll try to make it, but I make no promises" she mumbled.

"Great!" Mako said excitedly. "I'll see you then."

With that, Lin shoved the invitation into her coat pocket and walked out the door.
