── a welcome parade
𝕲eare had been right about one thing. As soon as we reached the Capitol, it was all go. I was dragged away from Thresh and taken down into the Remake Centre. I was beginning to feel like a plucked chicken.
My prep team, three Capitol people, had been getting me ready to meet my stylist for what felt like hours. They'd scrubbed all the dirt off of my body, and most likely taken most of my skin with it in the process, washed my hair three times until I was pretty sure that it would glow. They'd also removed the dirt from under my nails and trimmed them and now, they were taking all the hair from my body which hurt more than I expected.
It wasn't just from my legs and arms though, which I assumed was normal, but also from my underarms, torso, face and somewhere that I didn't think needed to have hair removed. Who knew that meeting the Capitol standards could be so painful?
I winced as the final strip was pulled from my body, wanting to protest but keeping my mouth shut. That caused the trio to send me appreciative looks.
"The last one moaned all the while, it was terrible for the mood. Grease her." The only woman, Lish, of the trio called. She was standing back, using tweezers to scratch at her violet curls, that matched her pale lilac skin. The two men, Mist and Saphi nodded. They hauled me upright, rubbing my whole body down with a lotion, before taking my thin robe from me and circling me with tweezers in their hand.
I felt like some poor calf being hunted by three, incredibly colourful birds of prey. It was an odd image.
"Oh, the dear looks almost like a true human now." Saphi seemed to be the youngest of the men, his teeth gold and eyebrows a vibrant orange that clashed with his blue hair. It was strange and I tried not to wince at his comment, that was vaguely insulting.
"Thank you." I managed to bite out through gritted teeth, smiling through the pain. The Capitol thinks that I'm sweet and Geare told me to keep them thinking that I'm sweet.
Mist pouted, his various earrings jangling as he nodded sympathetically. "The poor little dear."
"Varya will make sure that you look beautiful." Lish patted my hand, before the trio darted out of the room, leaving me naked and alone. I felt vulnerable. I reached up, covering myself as much as possible. Now we were in the games, I didn't know where the cameras were. What happens if they were watching me at this very moment?
Taking a deep breath, I twisted my mother's wedding ring around my fingers, wondering what would happen now. As if summoned by my own thoughts, the door to the room was thrown open as I turned my wide eyes to look at whoever had appeared.
"Well, it's nice to meet a true contender in the flesh." The Capitol girl smiled wide but my own was more muted, nodding silently. She could not have been more opposite of myself if I tried. Where I had olive skin and dark hair, the woman was pale and blonde. Where I was strong and skinny from little food and working with animals, she was small and red cheeked from a healthy upbringing. "Mitzi, my name is Varya. Your stylist."
