"oh."

A word that is so simple yet when ignored, is a lot more destroying than one might think. A simple response to disappointing news. It means a lot of things actually; for one, it means that I'm not pleasantly surprised at the moment and perhaps for the moments to come in the near future. It means my heart, which I had guarded well, has just been ripped into a tiny million pieces.

"oh." is the sound of disbelief, disappointment, and sadness, and sorrow all at once. Including guilt in some cases, to whomever, it may concern. But above all else, "oh." means I won't tell you because you wouldn't care about how I feel. Because you have other problems to deal with and important concerns that are prioritized way above me. And that's ok now. Because I've learned how to deal with that. That I'm second best in most people's eyes.
