The next morning I awoke to find myself on the floor next to Kyeyar's bed. Gaius was just about to step over me when I stirred, scaring the poor man half to death.

"Honestly Gwaine you need to find better places to pass out." Gaius chuckled, helping me up off the floor. I glanced at the bed below and nearly collapsed to find it empty. I turned to Gaius with panic scrawled over my face.

"Where is he? Is he okay?"

"Calm yourself, Merlin took him to the market. Kyeyar kept babbling about your spot and surprising you with breakfast."

Oh.

"That's..."

"Adorable." Gaius interrupts with a smile.

I chuckle in agreement quickly joined by Gaius. Once we had called ourselves I said my goodbyes and made my way to the courtyard. If luck is on my side I would be able to meet them halfway because, as much as I love Merlin's company, I would rather our spot stay secret.

But of course Lady Luck has a deep hatred for Camelot so nothing ever goes the way you want. Instead of bumping into Kye and Merlin, I walked straight into Percival.

"Gwaine!" "Percival!" I giggled nervously, rubbing my head where it collided with his surprisingly solid arm.

"I was actually just coming to find you."

"Oh um you were." I scratch the back of my neck shifting my gaze to my boots.

"Yes I just wanted to make sure you were all right. I saw Merlin earlier and he said you had passed out not long after I left."

"To be honest I don't really remember much of yesterday. But I'm fine now so if that's all." I know I am being a fool but after what happened yesterday I just can't look Percival in the eyes. He probably thinks I am weak. Pathetic.

"Wait!" Percival gently pulls on my arm spinning me back round. Once again I am caught up in his eyes that seem to hold an ocean of wisdom.

"Y-yes?"

"I meant what I said yesterday. You can trust me with anything."."

"Is this your way of asking why I spontaneously adopted a kid?" Humour is my only defense at times like this.

"I was trying to be subtle, but yes it is." I opened my mouth to respond but felt my legs get tackled almost knocking me to the floor.

"Gwaine!" The tiny squeal of joy brought a beaming smile to my face. I scooped up Kyeyar who was bundled in what looked like a tiny version of Merlin's tunic, most likely measured to size using magic.

"You were sleeping forever! I got breakfast." A bread roll was shoved into my face and I almost choked on laughter.

"Why thank you, Kye." I manage, swallowing the mouthful whilst balancing the child on my hip.

"Lets go to our spot." I go to nod but, out the corner of my eye, catch Percival's face fall.

"Um how about you take Merlin back to the room. Make sure he doesn't get lost, you can do that right?" Kye nods adamantly and scrambles down to the floor. He takes Merlin's hand and drags him off in the direction of the physician's chambers.

"Our spot?" Percival asks with a fond smile.

"Technically it's my spot. But out of the kindness of my heart I am sharing it."

"God you can be so difficult sometimes you know that." Percival laughs, rolling his eyes at me.

"He isn't the only person I would share it with." I say with a wink. Percival's ears tinge the most adorable shade of pink and he starts to fiddle with the hem of his tunic. Honestly how can someone so stoic also be so bashful.

"Always the flirt I see." He jokes, but it comes out more of a squeak. Oops I think I broke him! "You were going to say something before he tackled you."

"Oh um yeah, I was." I scratch the back of my neck preparing myself for the inevitable ramble. "Well I was on my way back from the tavern, just after you left actually. I took the scenic route as usual and heard a noise. At first I thought it was an attacker but then I saw him huddled up under a cloak twice his size, blue and shaking. Someone had just abandoned him, left him to die in the cold. The way he talked about his father makes me think it was him. I just couldn't leave him alone and it was too late to try and find him other accommodations. So I took him back with me. Something about him reminds me so much about myself; whether it's the crappy childhood or overall personality I don't know. But now that I have found him I just can't bear to leave him. That probably makes no sense at all."

"No it makes perfect sense. You feel like when you are apart from him you can't breathe. You need to know he is safe at all times and if he isn't you blame yourself because you weren't there to protect him. Every time they run off and try to act all heroic you want to scream at them but at the same time you can't help but marvel at their courage."

"I get the feeling we aren't talking about Kye anymore." I laugh nervously, but on the inside I am screaming because what the hell is happening.

"There really is no limit to your intelligence." Percival gazes down at me with so much love I can barely function. Seriously what the hell is happening? Somebody please explain.

"I- I should probably go. Kye will be waiting for me." I stutter, genuinely not knowing how to react to the sudden shift in atmosphere.

"Well I'll see you later then." I brush past him and head for the winding physician's stairs. Then something tugs on my wrist. "Oh and Gwaine."

"Yes-"
