"Oh and Gwaine."
"Yes-"
I am cut off by the softest kiss on the lips. Instinctively I wrap my arms around his neck and sink into the kiss. All too soon he is pulling away, eyes dilated so much I could barely make out the blue.
"See you later." He whispered with a wink, sending a shiver down my spine.
"Y-yeah. See you later."
What the hell just happened!
---
It was bound to happen sooner or later. Cenred's men were spotted just south of the Valley of the Fallen Kings, within Camelot's borders. The king has ordered us to take care of the situation, meaning I could be gone for days, weeks even.
I feel a small tug at the bottom of my cape, accompanied by a whimper.
"Please don't go Gwaine. I don't want to lose you too." His hazel eyes were glossed with tears, bottom lip quivering dangerously.
"It's okay little one, I won't be gone long. Besides I will have Merlin there to make sure I am alright. You trust him don't you?" Kye nodded adamantly, curls bouncing around his head.
"Trust me Kye, if there is one thing I am good at, it's keeping the people I love safe. You don't need to worry about Gwaine." Nevertheless Kyeyar wrapped himself around my leg with a vice like grip. It took all my strength to pry him off so I could give him a decent farewell hug.
"I will be home soon. In the meantime you can stay and help Gaius, I am sure he will appreciate some help."
"Trust me, you can't be any worse than Merlin." Gaius chuckled making Kyeyar giggle. Merlin shot his mentor and offended look purely for comedic effect only increasing Kye's laughing fit.
The melodic giggles were cut short by Arthur bursting into the room, armour clad and ready for battle.
"What on earth are you two doing. We need to leave." Arthur's eyes travelled to me, widening in an extremely comical way when he realised I had a child attached to my hip. "Gwaine what the-"
"No time to explain now Princess, we need to go." I ruffle Kye's hair before placing him on the ground. He gives me a watery smile and shuffles over to Gaius. It takes me a few moments to compose myself before making my way to the door.
'See you soon Kye.'
---
Our enemies swarmed us like flies to fruit. They came from all sides brandishing weapons to savage for any respectable knight to use. Everyone except Percival, Merlin, Elyan, Arthur and myself were down.
As the army flanked us images of my life back at Camelot, the life I have barely begun to build, flashes through my mind. In a spur of adrenaline I launched forward and managed to take out three knights before I was tackled to the ground.
"Gwaine!"
"Let him go!" Arthur and Percival yelled in unison, pointing their swords at the men pinning me to the ground. Next thing I know my head was slammed into the dirt. A piercing whistle rang through my head, bouncing off my skull like a drum.
Then darkness.
Kyeyar's POV:
I watched as the knights marched into the palace courtyard from the safety of Merlin's room. Gaius told me to stay put whilst he greeted the army. I don't think he trusts me.I don't think anyone trusts me. I can't leave the room without Gwaine or Merlin, even then I have to hide when people pass. I don't understand.
The last of the men are through the gates now. Gwaine isn't there. A strange tightness builds in my stomach just like the day mama died. Something has happened. I feel my magic getting angry, ready to lash out on the closest living thing. Maybe Gaius was right to keep me here.
I scramble down from the window sill and rush out Merlin's room. I need to know if Gwiane is okay. I can't lose anyone else. I just can't.
People give me weird looks as I run down the corridors. I have learnt to ignore the stares, papa used to look at me the same way. Before he went away that is. Just as I reach the huge wooden doors a hand grabs me from behind. A small scream escapes me as I am wrenched back.
"Get off me!"
"Kyeyar calm down, it's me." It's Merlin. I can trust Merlin. I launch myself into his arms unable to contain my scared trembles much longer. My bottom lip begins to quiver as I look up at the kind man.
"Where's Gwaine?" Merlin gives me a sad look that I know all too well.
Gwaine isn't here.
