Merlin's POV:
I am not getting called out by a kid! No way. I have not spent three years protecting that clotpole for my secret to be divulged by a three year old with no filter. I flash Arthur and innocent smile and crouch down to face Kye.
"I am flattered you think I can protect myself but really it's all Arthur. You know how clumsy I am." Let's hope he gets the message. What am I saying he has been living with Gwaine for the past week.
"But you use your gift. Just like me." Kyeyar stares at me as if I had lost my mind as does Arthur.
"Merlin what on earth is he talking about." This is not how I wanted this to happen.
"Nothing Arthur. Kye drop it, I am taking you home and that's final."
"No!"
"Kye please cooperate. You need to go home."
"No! I am staying. I am going to use my magic to help Gwaine and you can't stop me!" His confession echoed across the clearing which had become deadly silent. From the corner of my eye I can see Percival cover his mouth, eyes trained on Arthur.
"Magic? Merlin did you know of this?" I try and explain but the words escape me. Sensing the change in atmosphere Kye curls into my arms, burying his head on my shoulder. Arthur looks around the knights who all seem at an equal loss of what to do. He can't seriously be...can he?
"Did Gwaine know?" I nod my head looking away from my boyfriend. Why do I feel guilty? I kept it from him to protect Kyeyar. Oh. Oh.
"Gwaine would have told you, Arthur. I wanted to but if your father heard of this then-"
"Kye said he was like you. That he wants to protect people like you do." Oh no. No no no no. "Merlin do you have magic?"
Of all the times he chooses to use his brain! Kyeyar starts to tremble in my arms, reading my emotions. All I can do is stare at Arthur with tearful eyes. Taking my silence as all the answers he needs, he lets out a frustrated yell.
"Of all the people it had to be you didn't it?" Kyeyar whimpers at his tone and I'm not far off myself.
"Arthur I'm so sorry. Please believe me when I say I never wanted to keep this from you. But your father-"
"I. Am. Not. My. Father." Arthur yells making everyone wince at the ferocity. "You really think I would have given you up. Merlin, I love you. If I had to choose between duty and you, I would choose you every time."
"I didn't want you to have to make that decision." Arthur's expression dropped completely, any trace of anger washed away.
"That's what you were worried about." Becoming increasingly aware of the stares Arthur and I were receiving, I opted to change the subject.
"I would rather not talk about this now. Can we focus on getting Gwaine back please." For once in his life Arthur didn't argue. He sat himself on the other side of the camp, busying himself by sharpening his sword. Percival joined Kye and I with a sad smile on his face.
"Well that happened." I couldn't help but laugh, forced as it may be. Kyeyar wriggled out of my grip and climbed onto Percival's lap.
"I'm scared. What if Gwaine is hurt."
"Don't worry, Kye. If anyone can find him, Merlin can. Plus I am sure your gifts will come in handy. I have never seen someone turn invisible before." Kyeyar giggled softly as Percival ruffled his hair. Honestly that kid has such a striking resemblance to Gwaine it is hard to believe he isn't his child.
"I trust you." The tiniest yawn escaped him and he snuggled further into Percival's arms. "'M tired."
"Sleep Kye. We have a long journey ahead of us."
Gwaine's POV:
I woke up to muffled voices from above. The first thought that came to my mind was I'm dead, but I quickly dismissed that sleep induced fear. The voices got louder the more I fought against my slumber.
"If we kill him now it would be a waste. I say we wait, trade the knight for the boy. We need him if our plan is to work."
"Morgause the longer we wait the stronger our enemy will become."
"Do not question me Cenred. My word is final. You are not to harm that knight," Through glassy vision I see the murderous snake, Cenred, and his sorceress friend. She looks me up and down, acknowledging my consciousness. "Yet."
Great. I am now a part of some grand scheme to capture...who exactly?
"Sorry to interrupt but why aren't you killing me? Not that I am disappointed or anything."
I can practically hear Morgause roll her eyes. Good, let's piss her off whole I still have the chance.
"You are our insurance, Sir Knight. If I were you I would stay silent if you don't want me to go back on my word."
"Nah silence isn't really my thing."
"We will see." Her eyes flickered gold as she whispered a spell in foreign tongue. I feel my body seize up, preventing the slightest movements. Even breathing becomes a struggle. The last thing I hear before I pass out once more takes root in my brain, playing over and over until I can't help but submit.
