3rd Person POV

Landon is bouncing on a trampoline

Wade stands next to the trampoline, watching, while Sadie lays on the grass on top of her jacket, watching

"Fly, fly. Fly!" Landon says as he jumps

"Try flapping your arms." Wade says

"Superman doesn't flap his arms." Landon says

"Well, Superman's an alien, you're a bird." Wade says

Landon stops bouncing

"Yeah, well, you didn't know you were a fairy until yesterday." Landon tells him. "Don't be smug."

Landon starts jumping again

"Look, I know I'm just your stand-in friend until Rafael gets back and Sadie doesn't have a concussion anymore." Wade says

"What?" Landon asks, stopping jumping

"But why is this so important to you?" Wade asks. "So what if you can't fly? No one here flies."

"Look, I believed in you." Landon says. "Can you be a person here who believes in me?"

"All right." Wade says

"Hey, do you know how to get a key to the roof of the school?" Landon asks

"Well, I am the student security supervisor." Wade says

"Of course you are." Landon says. "Well can you get it? I think I just need to start with more height. You know?" Sadie rolls her eyes as Wade leaves. "Thanks, man."

Landon goes over to Sadie and stands over her

"You alright?" Landon asks

"I wish people would stop asking me that." Sadie says, closing her eyes

"We're just worried about you, Sades." Landon says. "I just...don't want you to keep it in if you're not okay."

"I know." Sadie whispers

"You know..." Landon says. "You can always talk to Raf about it..." He suggests

Sadie opens her eyes, looking over at Landon

"What's that face for?" Sadie asks

"Oh nothing..." Landon says. "Just how you like him."

Sadie sighs, laying her head back on the ground and Landon stops smiling

"He likes you, you know." Landon tells her

Sadie continues to stare at the sky

Sadie's face twists into confusion

"What's wrong?" Landon asks as Sadie points into the air. "You got to be kidding me."

A shadow flies over the two

***

Landon and Sadie are walking through the woods

Landon is looking up as he tracks the shadow that had flown over them while Sadie kicks rocks between her feet

"Come on, Sades, keep up." Landon tells her

"I have a concussion." Sadie reminds him

Landon stops and looks at her

"Look, I promise as soon as we're done, I'll take you back to your room." Landon says. "But right now, we gotta catch this thing!"

Landon looks at the sky again, seeing the flying creature, and starts walking under it
