"Mrs. Williams? You have a client waiting for you in the conference room." my secretary, Jenna, told me.
"Thank you Jenna." I said with a smile.
I walked down to the conference room from my office.
It's been 8 years since I almost never graduated from Ryerson. Now, I'm the CEO of my own marketing firm. After I left graduate school to get my MBA, I worked at Tate & Baum Marketing for 2 years before I decided to start up my own company. I was tired of working for the man, I wanted to be the man. I wanted to run the show my way, so I did.
4 years later, I'm running one the most successful marketing firms in Toronto.
Once I got to the conference room, I opened the big glass doors only to reveal my husband sitting in one of the black chairs at the big, brown, wooden table.
"Hey sweetie." he said.
"Ian. What are you doing here?"
"Well I'm on my lunch break and I thought I'd see you." he said as he stood up to give me a kiss.
We got married right after graduate school. We had patched things up since 4th year and had rekindled what we had. We fell in love again.
"Well, to what do I owe this wonderful and surprising visit?" I said.
"I thought I'd let you know that my law firm is looking for a new marketing team. Our old team wasn't getting the results we wanted."
"Well there's nothing I can do for you. We don't market law firms."
"What but I thought that --"
"--I'm kidding! Of course we'll market for you! How could I say no?" I said, giving him a big hug.
When we both released from the hug, he said, "Well, I'd better get going. I actually want to have lunch before I have to get back to work. Would you like to join me?"
"I'd be delighted."
We walked out of the conference room and I told Jenna I was going on my lunch break.
We entered the elevator and when we got to the lobby, I said, "My car or yours?"
"How about we walk instead?"
"Sounds good."
We walked to this cute little bistro just down the block from my building that always had the best Italian food. When we arrived, the hostess sat us down immediately at a table for two outside.
I ordered a lasagne with caesar salad in the side and a bottle of beer. Ian decided to get a chicken parmesan sandwich and beer. We weren't wine people. It was either beer ir hard liquor for us. Only when we went out or were home alone of course. We had a 6 year old daughter, Avery, living with us. In the home that I bought for after getting my bachelor's degree.
She was a handful, but we still loved her. Whenever plans came up, I'd have Brooke babysit her. She had made a business out of it and I helped her get a jumpstart on her career. It was the least I could considering it was her that got me to graduate. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be living the life I live now.
"So how's the firm?" I asked Ian as we ate our food.
"Oh yeah! I've been meaning to tell you! Guess who made senior partner?"
"Are you serious?! That's amazing! Congratulations honey!"
"I know it's huge! I get to hire my own associate that'll be working with me on cases. You know, show him the ropes and stuff. Ever since I saved the company from going down last month, we've been thriving and winning tons of cases. Brad finally decided it was time to give me a bigger title."
Suddenly, I felt my phone vibrating and ringing as I was getting a phone call from work.
I picked it up to have Jenna on the other line. "Hello?" I answered.
"Megan, you need to get down here fast."
"Why? What's wrong? Did something happen?"
"No, nothing serious but we have a huge client here that wants to see you. He says if you're not here soon, he's gonna be looking for a new marketing firm for his company."
"Alright tell him I'll be there in 5 minutes."
"Is everything alright?" Ian asked as I hung up the phone.
"Yeah, but I gotta go. I have a major client waiting for me."
"Alright, I'll see you at home?"
"Of course. Love you." I said as I gave him a quick kiss before leaving.
I practically ran back to my building in my 6 inch Louboutins. I was desperate to get there as fast as I could.
Once I got inside the building, I got in the elevator and pressed the 50 button to get to my office.
After leaving the elevator, I saw Jenna waiting for me by her desk.
"Which client is here to see me?" I said almost out of breath.
"Mr. Mead from Mead Sporting Goods. I hope it's alright that I sent him tor your office."
"Yes, that's fine Jenna. Thank you."
I walked to my office where I saw him waiting for me. Still the same dirty blonde hair and tan skin. Muscular build too.
"Mr. Mead?"
He turned around and said, "Please. Call me Tyler."
