Chapter 18A - a different point of view & Chapter 18B - we need to talk.

Pearl didn't sleep, so she stayed awake on her phone all night. The phone was a gift from Jake and his dads. As she scrolled through the social media apps, she found a post from the group with the weapons obviously cropped out. She smiled and she looked through her suit to find anything that was kept from the portal. It fried many of the components, but onyx managed to fix many of the features, including the energy meter. This was after the reunion but before onyx had continued on the machine. The alarm went off and, as always, it frightened pearl and made her jump.

Jake signed "good morning." "seriously tone down the alarm, it keeps scaring me." He just mimicked a laugh and he asked her to leave so he could get dressed. She complied and took her phone off charge and continued to look through the photo album on the suit. All was there was two pictures. One that was similar to the picture onyx found last year and the other was her with pyrite. She smiled at the pictures and she braced herself for the day ahead as she knew it would have a lot of work. Jake left and they jumped into the car where one of his dads drive them there. "thanks bill." Pearl said as they jumped out of the car and they went to the meet up for the class.

"no too late, am I?" she asked surprising everybody there, except for onyx who ran over and hugged her. "nope just on time, I'm going to need Jake to get a weapon and Gwen's got the ranged weapon people." Onyx explained. "got ya." Pearl said walking over when she was caught off guard by granite standing there. "what are you doing here?" pearl asked. "I heard you were going to be here, and I thought it would be nice to catch up." He responded, "but I should be training." "I know how hard you've been working, you deserve a break, besides it's been 4 years since I was last able to ask you anything or see you in a non-expository scenario." he said and made a joke out of it. "all right then you big softy, you got anywhere to go?"

They went up to the dungeon and pearl saw the destroyed metal door. "what happened here?" "that's from when onyx came to find diamond and she found me. She was in her heightened state." He said as they walked into the first room that was in the middle of reconstruction. "so, how's home been?" granite asked "it's a much better place now. The resource crisis is getting better, although it was at the cost the old king, but he wasn't a good person as you may remember." She told granite. "so, how's pyrite." "he's good." She said in an awkward tone. "I know he's your boyfriend. How did it come to that?" "it's just took time, but he was pushing a new project when I last saw him. That was nearly a year ago and I don't know if her went through with it." pearl explained

"new project? What's that about." "he found diamond's research on the speed core and how he was able to extract it from the gravity core and he was pushing for the scientist to go through with it, but I was strongly against it. it was too dangerous." "why did he ask you?" "because I became his bodyguard and I have equal say in any of his kingly orders. He used me as a grounding rod as he could make decisions that where defiantly wrong." She explained smiling while shaking his head. "it seems like you two got along grate." Granite said leaning on the door. He noticed that the lesson was over and invited to stay the night. "of course, I will." Pearl responded as she glided down the side of the mountain, and granite used some of the rocks to follow.

"that was impressive." Onyx said, "you could probably learn to do that." "so, you said you had the communicator working." Onyx faced palmed and granite picked up on what was being said. "I thought you were told to stop?" "I know, I know but the communicator is working fairly well, and the portal isn't too far behind." Onyx said trying to justify her actions. "we can talk about this later, for now let's go and let my sister talk to her boyfriend." Granite said. She took them the bunker and grabbed the communicator and handed it to pearl.

Peal grabbed the communicator and dialled in a number. While it rang the room filled with tension then, "hello. Thank you for calling the citadel, what's your problem." Pearl got excited. "it's pearl, I need to talk to the king." "where have you been?" the called asked "I can explain when I get back, but I need to speak to the king." She explained and she was transferred to the king. "hello, who is this?" pearl was brough to tears. "it's me. I've missed you so much." Pearl said. "is that you pearl?" "it is." "where are you?" pyrite asked "I'm stuck in another dimension, but on the upside, I found my brother and the others. "pearl said being flushed with emotions.

"that's amazing, do you know if you'll be able to come back?" "I hope so." She responded as the battery ran out. Onyx went over to take the communicator. "the battery is terrible; I think I need to find a way to run it off of our core." She remarked as granite walked over and hugged pearl. "onyx we need to talk." Granite said pulling onyx to the side. "I hate to ask this, but I think you have to rebuild the portal, for her sake." "I think I could use help." Onyx responded, "we need to get the other two on our side." Granite responded. They climbed out of bunker and walked into the house to see that ruby was home and aqua was sitting on the sofa.

As they walked in, they saw aqua sitting on the sofa and ruby was pacing back and forth. "you've continued to work on the portal, didn't you?" Ruby asked "yes." She said holding her head down low. "guys cut her some slack, she's been doing a lot and she was able to get the communicator working." "I was able to talk to my boyfriend again." Pearl added on. "I told her to stop because the stress was causing her to pass out and loose control of her powers." Aqua tried to reason. The tension was building up and finally onyx busted out "GUYS STOP! DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT? I DID THIS FOR MY SELF. WEATHER I REALISED IT OR NOT I'VE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR MY SELF." She started to calm down. "I needed to do this for myself. I need to see where I came from and... and... and..." she started to stutter, and she just ran to her room where she didn't lock herself in.

Aqua proceeded to do the same. "I've got her, you two just go and talk to aqua." Pearl said as she went to onyx's room. "you want to talk about it." pearl asked, "it's just that, over the last year I have discovered so much about what I use to be, and I don't know who I am anymore." She explained "I get it, when I came to this dimension, I was thrown into a different environment. I know it isn't the same, but I hope it helped." "it's not just that, I want to see where I came from an I want to help them get home, I want to help you get back to your boyfriend." "for once, stop thinking of helping everybody and think about just yourself." Pearl practically demanded of onyx. "I want to, but I just can't." onyx responded.

Meanwhile ruby and granite where trying to calm aqua down. "I don't get it, why did she continue." Aqua asked the two. "she was trying to get US home." Granite explained aqua asked for him to explain further. "she has been building this thing to get me, you, ruby and pearl back home. She may have been building it for her own curiosity but she started to make it so we could go back." "I don't think she should have been doing it." ruby said "you haven't seen it down there; she's being as careful as possible. She's doing her research and she's taking all of the necessary steps. She was able to finish the communicator that diamond spent months working on. If anybody could get us home, it's her." Ruby realised that nothing was going to sway him away from trying to help her. "whether you like it or not aqua, nothing's going to stop them. Hell, I'm even willing to pitch in I'm that convinced we can do it."

Aqua understood she was outnumbered, and she agreed to help. The 5 met outside the rooms and onyx explained everything they need to do. "how long will this take?" aqua asked "if where careful and quick, it should only take a few days." Onyx responded. They made the decision that they were going to fix it up the next day.
