Shawn's POV

Hi! I'm Shawn and I am 8 years old. My life was going well until my mom and dad got divorce a couple of weeks ago. Mom decided her, me and my baby sister to live with grandma and leave my dad behind. I didn't want to go but she said I had to go.

When we arrived at grandma's house I saw a little girl on the porch of the house next to grandma's. She was humming a little melody while drawing. I was curious as to why she was there and who she was. She was pretty. My mom called for me to hurry up and get in since it was cold out. I walked in and greeted grandma with a hug and a kiss on the cheek.

"Grandma, who is the girl next door?" I innocently asked her. She chuckled and bent down to answer my question.

"That is Camila Cabello hun. She just moved next door and if I am not wrong you two will attend the same school." My grandma said with a smile. "Now come on, I have cookies ready." I smiled big and followed her into the kitchen.

Winter break had just started so I had some time before going to my new school and for that I was grateful. My grandma showed me to my room and with a batch of cookies and some milk.

Before we moved here my mom had already sent our stuff so everything was already in my room with my bed built. Grandpa was at work but would be home later today.

I sat on my bed and looked around my room filled with boxes and bags of my stuff from back home.

I felt empty, lonely, and all of the above hungry for grandma's cookies. I looked back to my nightstand where the cookies were. I reached out and grabbed a cookie and my cup of milk.

I ate my cookies and drank my milk as I started to unpack my things.

I put my clothes in my closet, placed my school things on my study desk, and started looking around the street from my window when I saw this so-called Camila girl twirling around on the sidewalk. It was late and she was going up and down the street on her scooter. I shook my head, and told myself to close the window and go take a hot shower to go to sleep. She looked crazy and yet somehow I didn't think she was crazy. She was happy with doing something as simple as riding her scooter up and down the street.

She stopped when a lady walked out and called for her. "Camila! It's time to go in hun." The lady called out with a smile on her face. Camila smiled and walked along with the lady inside the house. I closed the blinds and went downstairs to eat dinner.

"Grandpa!" I ran to hug my grandfather.

"Hey buddy!" Grandpa laughed as he hugged me back. "How are you doing buddy?" Grandpa asked. I pulled away.

"I am a good grandpa!" I exclaimed.

We all ate dinner and it was a good distraction from my feeling of loss.

After dinner I took a shower and got ready for bed. When I heard a knock on the door.

"Come in." I called out. My mom popped her head inside.

"Hey hun, I was wondering if you wanted to talk." My mom sat on the bed and patted the space next to her.

I walked up to the bed and sat down next to her. "Sure." I shrug.

"So... what do you think so far?" She asked looking at me.

"I don't know mom. I didn't want to come live here but here I am now." I sighed. My mom rubbed her temple and sighed.

"Look hun, I know you didn't want to come, but this is a good place, maybe you can make some friends. How about Camila?" My mom chimed in.

"Maybe." I shrugged yet again feeling a little annoying and on edge. My mom kissed my forehead and said goodnight.
