Percy's POV
You say you'll be down in five
The smell of your perfume
Is floating down the stairs
You're fixing up your hair like you do**
"Let's go, Annabeth! I don't wanna be late again!" I stood right by the banister of the stairs, waiting for my wife who was getting ready upstairs. I glanced at my diamond watch that didn't even tell time and dusted it off carefully. Stupid expensive watches.
"I'll be down in five, Percy! I'm almost done with my hair! Make sure your suit looks good and that you don't break or ruin anything you're wearing!" she hollered, clearly trying to buy herself some time. I got a whiff of the lemon soap she always used even from where I was standing, and it smelled amazing, as usual.
"I hate fancy ballroom parties," I grumbled to myself, straightening my tie and dusting off my pants. "It's the 21st century. I'd much rather have a barbecue or something."
Leo and Calypso, two of our closest friends from college, were having their 1 year marriage anniversary party. I was happy for them and all, but I wish I didn't have to be stuck in this black tuxedo thing or whatever. I don't even know what this is- Annabeth stuck me in it and said I looked hot, which was enough to make me wear it.
After we had our first kid, Annabeth definitely started to take longer to get ready, something I didn't usually mind too much. However, we were gonna be late for Leo's party, and he would not be happy about it. And neither would I, considering there would probably be all this delicious finger food.
"Daddy!" My kid, Miliya, came running at me from the living room, bringing me out of my thoughts. I picked her up, tickling her arm lightly.
"Hey Mil! You ready for the party?"
She giggled and tugged on my hand. " Yes, Daddy! I wanna play with Uncle Jason and Max."
Jason was one of my old friends, and Max was Jason's kid. If Max weren't Jason's kid, I'd be steering Miliya far away from him. This was what is called a "crush," and I was not a fan of it whatsoever.
"Okay, Miliya. We've gotta wait for Mommy, so you can go sit by the door." I ruffled her blonde hair. She was the striking image of Annabeth but had my green eyes. She was adorable, clearly, since she looked just like Annabeth.
Yeah, I'm definitely gonna keep her away from boys when she gets older.
"Okay, Daddy! Don't do too much giggly-googly stuff with Mommy, please." I let her down, and she pointed a finger at me accusingly.
"Me?" I gasped and suppressed a grin. "I would never."
"Please, daddy. You always look at Mommy like she's a blue cookie. No, a box of blue cookies!" she decided as she ran for the door to put on her shoes.
Whatever. Little Miliya gets the attitude from Annabeth, I'm sure of it.
I grinned at the thought of that.
Our house was relatively big. Frank, one of our other college friends, always said I under-exaggerated, but it really wasn't that big. Okay, sure, it's big and we offered for Leo to have his party of probably over 1,000 people here and- okay fine, it's huge.
The stairs themselves were grand and quite posh, spiraling down from the balcony upstairs to where I was standing. Considering Annabeth was an architect, it made sense that our home would be built exactly how we wanted it.
We were a successful couple, at least in my eyes. We had incredible careers, a perfect daughter, and each other. But right now, we were getting late. And I did not want to get a lecture from Leo about how he's always early to all of our events and how we're always late for his.
