Another Avatar University Story

Chapter One

Darkness. Sweet, sweet darkne-

Rummmmble... Rummmmble...

I peeked upon one of my eyes, immediately met with the blinding light of the sun. I turned my head to the side to avoid the Monday morning sun. Adjusting my eyes to the light of the room, I saw my phone. It was vibrating, moving left and right. I flipped it over, brightening the screen.

"Six o' clock- who's there?"

My door began to creak open. A white sniffer with a black tip poked through. The white nose became a face, nudging its way through the door opening opening the door further.

"Appa!" I said, smiling and motioning for him to come onto the bed.

The samoyed dog burst through the door and jumped up onto my bed. He sat down on top of the blanket insulating me and started to wag his tail. His face crept down to mine, and smiled, dropping his jaw and allowing his tongue to roll out, panting.

"Could you give me like five more minutes Appa?"

He didn't relent, now dropping himself to lay down on my chest.

"C'mon buddy.. I was just about to get up."

Then, a familiar feline waltzed into the doorway.

Shifting my head away from Appa's drooling face, I propped my head with my hand and arm and looked towards Momo, sitting in the doorway.

"You gonna jump up here too, Momo?"

He purred, about-faced, and walked away. Appa, unfortunately, was still laying down on me. I shook my head and laughed under my breath.

I turned to Appa. "You want to go outside or something buddy?"

Immediately, he perked up and hopped off my bed. He began to dart his way out of the door.

"Aight, then" I said, softly, still in the process of waking up. "Outside it is."

I brought myself out of my bed wearing my grey sweatpants and t-shirt, put on some slippers, and made my way out of my room.

Appa was sitting by the door to our balcony; Momo was sitting comfortably along a windowsill. After releasing the lock to the balcony, the white, fluffy samoyed burst his way through the door and sat outside. Meanwhile, I began to make myself some breakfast: a simple plate of toast smothered with nutella chocolate with strawberries.

I shuffled my way to sit outside with Appa. "You excited for my first day of college, buddy?"

He just sat there, staring towards the horizon of small and tall skyscrapers alike.

Today was to be my first day of college here in the capital city of Ba Sing Se. It was a very large city, with a boxy skyline made of tall skyscrapers juxtaposing against small, typical red brick mortar apartment buildings like mine. The name of the school I'd be going to for the next four years starting today was Ba Sing Se University. It was the city's most esteemed and renown school. Besides being prestigious, it also had a diverse student body. Its students hailed from every borough of Ba Sing Se. People from both Water Districts, the Earth Burough, and the Fire Burough went here.

I looked around my balcony. It was a rather big space and I didn't put much into decorating it. Come to think of it, I didn't have much in the way of decorations here where I lived and I'm guessing that it stems from the way the monks taught us to live. However, it felt quite roomy and, honestly, lonely.

I finished my toast and got up. "Aight, I'm gonna head inside now buddy. Care to join me?"

Appa listened this time to my question as he got up and walked towards my legs.
