I got home and I was greeted by the usual dog kisses and the cat bunting against my legs. After feeding them their dry and wet food and changed into some more comfortable clothing, I headed out onto my balcony to type up my first paper for English. I figured it'd be a good way to get the Water Borough girl out of my mind while also doubling as a way to knock out my first paper. It was a nice evening here on the fifth and top floor of my building. The sky was pink and orange. The sun setting behind the black shapes of buildings and water towers on top of the many roofs forming the skyline.

I banged out a title and a couple of paragraphs. It was dusk and it had already turned into night on my balcony. My phone began to make dinging noises. It was Sokka.

"Did she text you back on anything?"

"Not a word yet."

"I don't know dude. I'm getting worried."

"She'll be fine dude. She's a strong person."

Yeah.. remember when she hugged you that first day in English class?

Sokka seemed to stop texting after that so I darkened my screen. It was getting cold up and I decided to head inside. Right after I closed the door, I turned around and was met by Appa. He had his mouth open, tongue dropped and drooling, and was smiling. I dropped down to meet his and nuzzled my forehead onto his.

"I don't know how you do it but you always find a way to make my day better."

I was crouching before but now I planted myself onto the floor and brought Appa to my chest. I gave him the biggest hug.

"Tough day?" I said, moving Appa's head up and down to my words.

"Yeah.. I fucking hate girls, you know?" I replied back to Appa.

I was about to mouth off some words for Appa to mimic but Appa had other plans. He just barked.

"I know! And I'm just looking out for her." I threw my hands into the air.

He ran off towards my room, probably to call it a night in his crate. I dusted myself off and brought myself back to my feet. It's true what I said about Appa; he really did make my day better.

A couple more hours had passed and it was now elevent, almost twelve, at night. After checking up on Momo who was balled up on the reclining chair and on Appa, who was sleeping in his crate, I decided to call it a night myself. I collapsed on my bed and threw my thick, woolen blanket over me. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.

Rummmmmmble...... Rummmmmble....

I peaked an eye open towards the window. It was still night. I closed that eye and fell asleep again.

Rummmmble.......Rummble.....Rummmmmble...

I paid no attention and I continued to sleep, or at least try to get back to sleep.

The ringing subsided.

Rummmmmmble..... Rummmmmmmmble...

At this point I was getting annoyed so I got up to look at my phone. It was night so I ruled out the rumbles being caused by my alarm. It had to be someone calling.

"Who- *yawn* Who the fuck calls someone at this hour?" I said, looking towards a clock. It was a few more minutes until three in the morning.

I reached for my phone and brightened the screen.

"Katara."

I was hesitant to answer it at first, partly because I had just awoken from a pretty decent sleep but also because I was fed up with her for the day. I decided to pick up the phone but not answer it. I pressed the green button and waited for her response.
