Between the incident at the beginning of the week and having to have Katara drunk in my living overnight, the first week here at the University was better than I anticipated. I'd never had the opportunity to make friends, mostly because of the fact that I was an Air Nomad living in a city crawling with people who could trace their entire family tree back to the same people who were the reason I was living here alone.
The Friday classes came and went by quick, probably because it was a Friday and the weekend was just a couple hours away once the final lecture ended. I still hadn't had that much work to do for my classes, the only big assignment I had to worry about was the English thesis I started to work on the other day. Once all our classes ended, Katara, Sokka and I found each other.
"So Aang, how was your first week?." Katara smirked.
I returned the gesture and expression. "I was just about to ask you the same thing."
"It's not my first week here, but I had a great week. Thanks for asking guys.." Sokka interjected with an annoyed look. Katara and I giggled while Sokka just facepalmed and groaned.
"Hey guys, look! It's Yue!" Katara pointed towards a blue mass walking their way across the campus. Of course it wasn't actually a blue blob; it just happened to be Yue's posse that followed her around. I had never seen this person before but it didn't take too long to figure who Yue was.
Katara and I both looked at each other. She mouthed off the words 'let's go' while pointing towards the group of people and we began to walk our way over to them. Sokka, unfortunately, wasn't a part of that "we". I turned my head just so that I could see Sokka more clearly without having to use my periphery. Sokka, on the other hand, had a flushed face and was rubbing the back of his neck. I flung my hand backwards and then forwards, motioning for him to come over. Sokka acquiesced, although he was still beaming a bright red on his face. When all three of us got up to Yue's posse, the two siblings were now nervous, Sokka being a tad bit more.
"Aang, I don't know.. I mean, maybe we could do this some other day. The election won't start for another month." Katara stammered, playing with her fingers.
"Yeah, and-" Sokka said before I cut him off.
"Guys, come on. I thought we were all devoted to this little effort of ours."
"We are it's just-"
"Well, if you two are both scared, I'll go ahead and do it myself."
"Wait!"
I pried my way through the crowd until I found myself in front of what I knew to be Yue. For being a part of the two Water Boroughs, she didn't have the signature tanned color skin or the classic brown hair. The skin was a lighter shade of brown, almost like a hazelnut color, and her hair was just white.
Before, everyone was on their phones and talking to each other about the day; Now, everyone paused. It didn't take too long to realize that they all stopped to stare at me. There was this dress code or something for this group, blue being the color everyone was wearing. I, on the other hand, was wearing a mixture of orange, black, and white.
"Hey, you must be Yue, right?" I smiled towards her. "My name's Aang. I just came to introduce myself to you and say that.. That I'll be voting for your father in a few months."
There were two boys breaking their way through the crowd and it looked as if they were here to take me away. Yue waved them off, however.
"Guys, that won't be necessary." She lowered her hand and turned to face me. She nodded to me, which was her way of saying yes to my question. "It's a pleasure meeting you Aang, and thank you for that."
