THE PLAYGROUND

CHAPTER SIXTEEN

Alexa's POV

It was a new week, Chris had gone back to school, dad applied for a job at an oil company, Dave was also on the lookout for a job and mom spent most of her time at the hospital with me.

Several bodies have been turning up all over town, so far there have been ten cases, minus the ones that happened before. Some of the bodies were mutilated while the others were just dead, the cause of death was still unknown. The police department were still on the search for Josie and her minions but its like they were ghosts. No one has seen any of them anywhere and it was getting a little frustrating.

"Mom, do you think they'll ever find Josie?"

"Of course honey. It just might take a while."

"Its taking too long. Gale said th--- I mean officer gale said his boss has been giving him a hard time at work."

"I've been meaning to talk to you about that sweetie" she said and gave me one of those  'I'm suspicious'  look.

"What do you mean?"

"Is something going on between you too?"

"What!, noo of course not" I tried sounding serious but I couldn't.

"Lately he's been coming here a lot, bringing you flowers, chocolate, and many more gifts" he did bring lots of flowers, my room almost looks like an indoor garden "also, whenever I come here, I always meet him here and you laugh a lot when you two talk. Sweetie, I'm your mother, talk to me."

She's right, I can't lie to her about it. I mean gale and I are sort of dating...he brings me flowers, buy me gifts and well he did tell me he loves me, that counts as dating, right?. "Mom, you're right. I shouldn't lie to you gale and I are--"

"Hey dear, how-- oh...um..good day ma'am. I didn't know you'd be here, not that its bad that you're here.. I just..."

"No, its good that you're here gale. Mom was just asking me what was going on between us." I said, smiling oddly.

"Are you two dating?" Mom asked him and he shifted his gaze from me to my mom, looking uncomfortable.

"Mom!"

"I have to know!, now tell me. What're your intentions with my daughter?"

"My intentions towards her are totally innocent. I just love her" he blurted out.

"Just love her, like a sister?" It was obvious by the tone of her voice that mom was teasing him.

"No, like a girlfriend." he said, then lowered his gaze, his face turning a little red. I still found it quite amazing how he could be so manly and yet blush like a teenage boy at times.

"Well I have no reason to oppose your relationship, I just want my daughter to be happy." She said, then smiled at me "I'll leave you two to talk." she got up to leave only to stop by the door and wink at me.

"Mom!!" I heard her laugh as she walked away and I smiled too them looked at gale who was now sitting in front of me. "Hey."

"Hey. I guess we don't have to hide it from her anymore."

"Yeah. One down, three to go"

He chuckled, making my heart stop for a while. He always looked breathtaking whenever he laughed. "yeah and those are the hard ones."

I smiled but it only lasted for a while and then my expression turned sad

"What is it?" He asked, his expression serious.

"I dont want anything to happen to you or anyone in my family." I was feeling this way because of a dream i had three nights back. I saw Josie, she had purple smoke around her. I saw her suck the life out of a man, i still don't understand it but she opened her mouth and she sucked out something gold out of the man. When he died, he looked almost white and his eyes were plain white, just like the bodies that had been turning up all around town.

When she got up, her eyes were black and her voice bold like many people spoke at once. She told me to enjoy my life while it lasted but i should know that i won't have it for long, that she was coming for me and she'll take everything i love from me.

He took my hands in his much larger hands and smiled tenderly at me "We're gonna be fine. Nothing's gonna happen to me, you or anyone else. We're all gonna get through this, okay?. So stop worrying little darling."

I really loved it when he called me little darling, it made me feel happy. I smiled at him and kissed him on the cheek, taking him by surprise. "Thanks. I feel better." 

He smiled at me and moved closer to me "You're one of a kind, Lexi." I wondered what was with the compliment. He wasn't smiling, I couldn't even read his expression, but he looked smoking hot like all those bad boys in movies. He fixed his gaze on my lips then he lowered his head and when our lips touched, I felt like I was on fire, but the good kind, I felt like there were butterflies in my stomach. He stopped to look at me but I wasn't satisfied, I pulled him closer to me and he cupped my face with his hands. He felt so good and I didn't want to stop. He deepened the kiss, making me moan with pleasure. I put my arms around his neck, playing with his silky hair making him shiver a bit. When he ended the kiss, we sat there breathless, looking at each other. His deep brown eyes looked brighter than usual, his lips curved into the most sexiest smile I've ever seen. "Wow, that was...incredible."

"Yeah. It was." I smiled and covered my face with my hands to prevent him from seeing my already red face.

"I can't wait for you to get out of here so we can go on a real date."

"Me too."

"Where would you wanna go?"

"Anywhere, as long as its with you." He smiled and kissed me again and the world seemed to stop and nothing else mattered, it didn't matter that Josie was still out there or that we might die soon. All that mattered was that we were together.
