THE PLAYGROUND

CHAPTER TWENTY

Gale had his gun pointed at the man who's face he vaguely remembered but he refused to comply.

"If you shoot me, she's going to get hurt."

"I'll take my chances. Now, I want you to slowly drop her or else I'm gonna shoot."

He reluctantly did as he was told and Gale cuffed him. He took him to the station and the young girl, who also looked familiar, to the hospital.

The next morning, Alexa went to see him and that made his morning better. "You're wearing the same thing you wore yesterday." She pointed out as she sat on his desk.

"Yes I am, I didn't go home last night."

"Why?"

"I had to save someone and I arrested someone I think you should see."

"Why, who is it?"

"Just someone you might know."

"Okay. Can we see him now?"

"No, he's still being interrogated."

"Ah...I see."

"Yes, so what're you doing here?, not that I'm not happy to see you. I'm just curious."

"Well Dave wanted to check in to see how things were going and I volunteered to come."

"Hmm, how nice of you."

"Yes, I'm a really nice girl. You're really lucky to have me in your life." She smiled and put her hands on her cheeks, grinning ear to ear like a little girl while batting her lashes.

"Indeed I am." His lips curved into the most sexy smile she had ever seen and it made her heart skip a beat. "So, what am I going to do with you?" He smiled teasingly as he put his arms around her waist and pulled her closer to him.

"Should we be doing this here?, I mean what if someone walks in?"

"No one dares to enter my office unannounced." He moved closer so their lips were almost touching but they were interrupted by a knock on the door.

"Sir, the man is refusing to say anything." Gale jumped as his partner gave him the news.

"Okay. I'll check on him."

"Okay sir."

Alexa's voice boomed in his office as she bursts into laughter after he left." I told you someone could walk in." She exploded in another round of laughter.

"That's enough, it's all your fault." He joked.

"My fault?, How?"

"If you hadn't been so irresistible, none of this would have happened." She smiled shyly and lowered her gaze. "You know you look even more attractive when you're shy." She blushed even harder turning her face tomato red. He raised her chin with his finger so he could look into her eyes. "You don't have to be shy around me." He kissed her and the world around her seemed to fade away. She was brought back to reality though when he ended the kiss. "We should go now. We wouldn't want to keep them waiting."

"Sure okay." They walked to the interrogation room and when Alexa saw the man, her eyes widened in surprise. "Where did you arrest him?"

"Just around. Why, do you recognize him?"

"Yes. He's the man working with Josie."

"I knew I had seen him from somewhere. When I saw him, he was about to abduct a young lady that also seemed a little familiar."

"Is she okay?"

"Yes. I took her to the hospital already. I'm going to check on her later, do you want to come along?"

"Sure. I'd like to see her."

"Okay then. We'll leave soon."

Alexa turned to leave but the man stopped her. "You know me, don't you?"

"Why do you do this?, What could Josie have promised you to make you do all these terrible things for her?"

"You can't possibly understand so why bother explaining it to you?"

"Just try me, try to make me understand and maybe we can work something out."

"Just think about it, you could have the entire universe wrapped around your fingers. To be able to make anyone do anything you want whenever you want."

"That's what she told you?, that you could control the entire world?, That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Don't let her raise your hopes up because it's not possible."

"I knew you wouldn't understand. I'm not talking about Josie, I'm talking about you. You have so much power, enough to defeat Josie, enough to take over the world."

"Why did you try to kidnap that girl?" Gale cut in.

"Isn't it obvious?" He snorted.

"Why?"He repeated.

"Give me one good reason I should tell you."

"If you don't, you'll spend the rest of your life here and I'll make sure you're tortured every single day." Gale threatened.

"Do you really want to die here because of Josie?" Alexa added.

"I don't know what she wanted to do with her all I know is that she wants her because she's a powerful girl."

"Powerful?"

"Yes. Just like you, but she's not as strong as you are."

"What is Josie planning?"

"I don't know, but the most important part of her plan is to kill you."

When Alexa heard that, she didn't know if she should be scared or angry. She felt both, angry because someone she used to trust and loved wanted her dead for reasons she didn't fully understand. She was scared because she felt like she was really going to die. She had escape Josie's death twice and she wasn't sure she was going to be lucky enough next time.

They left the man, Morris in the interrogation room and headed for the hospital to see the victim. On the way to the hospital, Gale noticed Alexa was tensed but he decided not to say anything about it because she might need some time to think.

"Do you think it's possible?" She asked as she turned to face him.

"What?"

"You know, taking over the world."

"I don't know Lexi, if someone asked me this question months ago, I'd say it's not possible, but since I met you, I've started believing the impossible."

"Even if it was possible, why would someone want to do that?, I mean you wouldn't have any friends. How is the world supposed to be fun when everyone's your slave?"

"Some people are just greedy for power I guess. If there's one thing I'm sure of though, it's that we'll stop her."

"Yes, because good always defeat evil."

"That's right darling."
