!!!!TW!!!!
Also a super long chapter"Lead me back from the darkness like you do
Before I knew you, I lived in the rearview
To wish back an image of myself I thought was true
So now when colors fade and on that day of days
I needed you to say it wasn't one to rue
Oh and lead me back from the darkness like you do"Nova
A frigid chill.
The sweet smell of pot lingering in the stale air.
Loud and indescribable voices shouting as people have the times of their lives while music clamors out of the large brick house.
My anxiety spiking at the idea that I'm entering my first college party as a freshman.
Judy's leathered arm wraps around my shoulders as I catch myself staring at the glowing house in front of me. The house is tucked in the corner of a downtown street, not too far from campus but too far from Judy and I's cozy apartment.
I didn't want to come, I never found myself as a partier or someone who enjoyed going out on a Friday or Saturday night and filling my lungs with toxic fumes and stomach with cheap alcohol. In high school I busied myself with music or reading, never finding the enjoyment of being around crowds of people and sloppy mistakes. I didn't have many friends in high school, I was always labeled as the quiet girl who lost her dad and barely talked, just sticking to herself. I never was a fan of all the attention on me and I was way too antisocial to even try and make friends.
I hated the small town I found myself in and found that I needed a breath of fresh air. My mother didn't want me to attend college in the city, but I knew I needed something new and fresh so I could attempt to swim out of the current that was dragging me under. When I was accepted into the University of Illinois at Chicago, I finally felt like this would be something beneficial for me, knowing that I could truly emerge myself into everything that the new campus would offer along with the excitement of Chicago.
"You ready to experience your first real college party?" Judy asks next to me, her long brunette hair blowing in the wind as she flashes me a smile, her black leather jacket hugging her perfectly.
I gulp, still getting used to Judy's spontaneous personality after just meeting her only a couple months ago. Mason stands on the other side of me, a tall freshman who is so pure and full of kindness that I just want to shield him from every harmful thing that may come his way. Mason smiles down at me as well, wrapping his arm around my shoulder as well, placing his arm on top of Judy's as they pull me across the yard.
The old two story brick house is full of half naked college students who are celebrating the win of our college football team, their faces painted and their university shirts cut and shredded. I huddle between both Mason and Judy's bodies, letting them shield me as they push through the multitude of our peers.
