Nova

My eyes struggle to open as the wave of restlessness subsides. I slowly go to open my eyes, feeling blinded as soon as my eyes slit open. There's a blanket of bright light on the other side of my closed eyes, making me hold a hand in front of my face. I strike up the courage to open my eyes fully, looking around with semi-shut eyes. There's never this much light in my room, I have blackout curtains to keep the morning sun out of my room.

I let my eyes adjust to the unforgiving luminescence, noticing the sunlight invites its way in through the vast windows surrounding me.

Shit.

I sit up, grabbing my head as I do so. There's a slight pounding against the back of my cranium, making me wince slightly. I look around the well lit room, noticing I had a blanket draped around me while my sneakers sat on the floor by the end of the couch. My socks were left on and I had a mini panic attack before quickly whipping the blanket off of me, revealing my clothes were still in tact on my body. I sigh in relief and bring a leg up to my chest before laying the other one on the floor, hitting something along the way.

I hurry and look down at what my foot just touched, seeing a sleeping Harry curled up on the hardwood. He lays on his side facing the couch, strands of his long hair fanning around his head. There's a slight frown on his face as he sleeps, laying his head on a bent arm while tucking the other one up close to him.

He looks so peaceful as he takes deep and relaxing breaths. His skin is illuminated by the morning sun, giving his skin a golden hue. I stare down at him, admiring how harmonious this man looks. His jaw is sharp as it stays clenched while his knees are slightly bent in a fetal position.

I continue to watch him before noticing the whisky bottle on the coffee table above him. That would explain my headache. I don't remember much from last night, just the pictures and then everything went dark. I remember waking up here and Harry explaining that I had passed out. I remember taking a couple of sips from the bottle, but my mind goes blank after that.

I assume I just passed out and fell asleep yet again at Harry's. Jesus what is wrong with me.

I notice the book Harry was reading when I woke up. It sits next to the whiskey bottle, looking a bit tattered at the seams. It's seen better days for sure. I lean over and reach for the book cautiously, making sure I don't disturb Harry that lays underneath me.

I grab the copy and open the cover, noticing an inscription on the inside.

Her green eyes symbolize the green light that Gats-

I immediately stop, jumping at the feeling of my phone next to me vibrate. I shut the cover of the book, grabbing my phone, relieved it was on silent.

A text from Judy.

J: Where the hell are you? I feel like I haven't seen you in a few days.

I look down at my phone, rubbing my tired eyes before texting her back.

N: I've just been really busy at work and trying to develop everyone's film. We've been super backed up.

The realization hits me like a ton of bricks.

Shit. I work today.

My hands pause and I look up at the time on the phone screen, seeing it was already 9:50am. I have to open at 10. I scrunch my face and mentally curse myself. Luckily Kim is still out for the film convention, but I still feel guilty that I'm late. I've never been late before.

I brush some tangled hair away from my face, knowing I probably look a wreck. I glance down at Harry for a mere second, seeing he's still sleeping and hasn't moved an inch. I slowly scoot towards the end of the couch away from his sleeping body, and stand up. I shuffle my shoes on, hoping to keep quiet. I locate my jacket and purse on the chair next to me and hurry and grab the items, not bothering to put my coat on.
