Beth's POV:
"I can't wait to show my family this ring."
I'm grinning from ear to ear and admiring the ring. Then I look up at Dylan with the same grin on my face.
"And tell them the good news of course."
"Of course" Dylan replies.
Dylan walks me to my car, helps me with my bags and opens the driver's side door for me.
I climb in and he shuts the door.
"What a gentleman." I say with a chuckle.
Dylan puts his hands on my door and leans in to kiss me.
"Alright. I gotta go. See you in a week."
"See you in a week." Dylan says and leans off my car and steps back.
I wave goodbye and start reversing out into the street. Dylan waves back and watches me drive away.
...
"Mom! I'm home!"
My mom comes walking out of the kitchen and greets me at the door.
"Thank God. I've been counting down the days till I had someone else help me deal with this sister of yours."
I laugh. "Where is she?"
Mom laughs with me. "Upstairs in her room."
Mom embraces me in a hug and takes the bag from my hand.
"Oh my God!" Mom smiles a huge smile, putting my bag in her other hand and keeping her hand holding mine.
"What?" I say playing dumb.
"Beth. Don't mess with me. Is this what I think it is?!"
"Yes Mom. It's a ring. Isn't it beautiful?"
"This is not just any ring."
"No it's an engagement ring." I say calmly.
"Beth, tell me everything!"
"Well, Dylan proposed to me. A week before today actually. I was telling him he should spend Thanksgiving with his family, and after awhile I got him to call them. He came back in and said he'd be going. I got up to hug him as a way of showing that I was happy and proud of him. But I couldn't because he dropped to his knee and proposed."
"That is very adorable."
"Thank you?" I say smiling but a little quizzical because "adorable" wasn't the word I was quite looking for.
Just then my sister comes stomping down the stairs.
"I'm assuming with all the noise, Beth is here?"
"Yes she is." Mom says in reply.
"What is mom smiling for?" Ann looks at me for an answer.
Before I can answer, my mom takes my hand and holds it up for the world to see.
"Your sisters engage!"
"Congrats Beth. It's Dylan right?"
"Of course."
Ann comes up to hug me. Then mom hands her my bag and tells her to put it up in my room. She continues bossing around by telling me to wash my hands and help her in the kitchen.
...
After a few hours in the kitchen, the food necessary to be prepared the night before, is prepared and stored away. My family and I change into our PJ's and head into the family room to watch Hallmark movies.
