Photographer Karl

The sun's rays settle right on top of the quiet hill, basking you and Karl in warmth as the two of you lay there together. Your fingers are interlocked with his and no words are passed between either of you. You and he were merely there to enjoy the beauty of nature; the beauty surrounding you every day that so many people took for granted. He wore his usual, black sunglasses to protect what remained of his eyesight from the harmful rays of light.
It only took one quick glance at him to notice he was troubled. It was evident that he was lost in dark thoughts by how stiff his body felt beside yours and the thin lines formed by his pursed lips. You interlocked your fingers in his, reassuring him that you were still there with him. His body loosened up a bit more, but he still seemed troubled.
"What's wrong?" you questioned and gave his hand a soft squeeze.
"Nothing's wrong" he said, bringing your hand up to his mouth to leave a soft kiss. "Tell me, are there many clouds out today? It's still a little too blurry for me to make out."
"Yes, there are. I think it might rain tomorrow with all these clouds in the sky but for now, the sky looks gorgeous with all the white clouds scattered about."
Smiling at how joyful you sounded, he outstretched his arm to allow you to lay on it which you happily obliged. Despite the heat from the warm day, you couldn't help but snuggle up close to him. His touch alone was enough to send your heart into overdrive. It didn't matter how long you were dating him for; you still always felt like a schoolgirl with a crush when you were around him.
Looking past him, your gaze landed on the untouched picnic basket that laid forgotten only a few feet away. As if on cue, your stomach growled with hunger. You and Karl were planning on eating the moment you got to the top of the hill but lost all interest in that plan once mesmerized by the beauty of nature surrounding the two of you.
You stood up from your spot on the lush grass and made your way over to the picnic basket to grab a sandwich for each of you. A smile resided on Karl face as he watched you walk past him. Your form was blurry, but still visible enough for him to relish in how gorgeous you looked. The sun's rays made your [hair color] hair shimmer as a small gust of wind caused it all to blow to one side.
He sat up and offered you his gratitude when you handed him one of the sandwiches. You sat in between his legs and leaned against his chest as the two of you ate. It was the most comfortable position you loved to be in when sitting with him and he enjoyed it just as much as you. Karl placed his half-eaten sandwich down on a napkin and wrapped his arms around your body as you continued to eat your sandwich.
"Not hungry?" you asked him, suspiciously eyeing the sandwich he put down.
"Not particularly, no."
Another gust of wind blew over the hill, albeit stronger than the last. Your hair whipped all around and Karl helped to tame it, running his fingers through the silky strands he loved so much. Once your hair was back in place, you slowly lowered your hands until the sandwich was nearly touching the ground.
"You haven't been eating much since you stopped taking photos... Are you sure you're okay?"
He hesitated, continuing to run his fingers through your hair while he tried formulating a response to reassure you. As a matter of fact, he wasn't completely sure if he was doing fine. With each passing day, everything he once loved most, including photography, was slowly starting to slip away from him. Taking pictures was already a strenuous task for him with his diminishing eyesight, and his faltering motivation did nothing to help with that struggle.
