Dream was unpredictable.
Like a tidal wave, he came crashing into your life.
Unannounced and without your consent he easily crept into your nights, like ivy bursting its way through the bricks of building walls and broken pavements. He was bold and steadfast as if he was an owl, eyes locked on the prey that was you, and only you, wanting to win you over the only way he was taught to.People spoke of him like they were afraid to admit he was a better person than they were or ever could be, but he was audacious enough to push them back when he realised he was the hero in his story and they were standing on his cape.
The combination of his ingenious exclamations were always able to brighten your brightest brights, darkest darks, and fill the gaping well in your chest with drops of his freehearted smiles.
When Dram came up to you for the first time that sweat-inducing Summer with a plate of every sort of food available, his smirk drew you in like an amateuristic magic trick; everyone could see him putting the coin behind his ear, but you were the only one left speechless when he lent you his precious two cents.
And when he managed to pry open the lock to your inner worries, finding you crying your eyes out to the rhythm of your breaking heart, you clawed onto his chest and he allowed you to. He wasn't at a loss for words, but he was captivated by the tears on your face. Feelings like pain and self-denigration were now added to his visual dictionary. It was unusual of him to stay that quiet, but even he knew when he had to shut up.
That didn't stop him for trying to quell your anxiety, troubles and whatever he was able to fight with a determined grin and loving hands.
When your brain reminded you that you looked more hideous in that coffee shop window's reflection than you did in the mirror that morning, he would still tell you you're the prettiest person he'd ever laid eyes on.
And you whispered to him solemnly you were just a haunted house - fun to visit once a year but not a place someone would want to live forever - he told you that he instead saw you as the light that guided him through the dusty hallways of something he wanted to conquer together.
When you pushed him away because you thought you didn't deserve his love, he laughed and said that he'd gladly give it to you, because it's you, and his love for you would only follow him into the afterlife.
But when you told him that the scars didn't have any intention of fading, he confidently claimed that a swiss army knife was not enough to break through the bulletproof armour he'd protect you with.
So when you smiled to yourself and said you'd just be a memory one day, he told you that adults used to tell him how someone's touch could feel familiar.
Dream looked you in the eyes and promised he would search for the feeling of your memory and bring it back to life,
so he could hold your hand in his just one more time.
