Henry kicked Right into the hard metal floor of the ramp, cracking the Toppat's cybernetic eye as he did so. He was slightly disappointed that he hadn't decided to do a dance-off, but this was the right choice, so he accepted that dancing wasn't on his list of things to do today.
Taking down the Toppat Clan was.
"My c-c-c-cybernetics!" Right said, his voice glitching as his cybernetics shut down.
Henry glanced at Right's now-still form, then at the Toppats coming to kill him, then made a split-second decision.
He rewired the Right Hand Man.
Right, his eye now shining white and blue instead of red, picked Henry up and literally flew up to the cockpit of the rocket, smashing through the glass window.
"Holy sh*t!" Sven Svensson- second in command yelled, holding his arm defensively over his face as glass flew everywhere. "What the f**k! My window!"
"Hold it!" Rewired-Right yelled. "The Toppats are finished! You're not going anywhere!"
Sven didn't seem to hear or process it. "That took forever to fix the last time someone broke it! We're already running weeks behind schedule! Not to mention the cost to fix it- do you want to have to sell more sh*t to pay for this?! I know you're reckless, but f**k! You're worse than dad ever was!"
Dad? Henry wondered. He didn't have anytime to wonder about it, as Rewired-Right held out a hand to shield him.
"Stand back, Henry," Rewired-Right said. "I'll take care of this guy."
"Wait, what?" Sven started processing for the first time. "What are you doing? You're our boss! You're really gonna- Ack!" He let out a strangled cry as Rewired-Right jumped forward and slammed him onto the floor.
"That's enough outta you, Toppat," Rewired-Right growled.
Sven tried in vain to pull Rewired-Right's hand off his neck. The Toppat's efforts were weak as his oxygen shortage started catching up to him. Rewired-Right's grip was like a steel trap- he could snap Sven's neck without any effort whatsoever.
"Why- are you doing this?" The younger Toppat managed to say as Rewired-Right continued to strangle him. "He- Henry locked up dad- remember-"
The Right Hand Man faltered for a split second as Toppat loyalties struggled against cybernetics. Then Toppat loyalties came through and Right released Sven with a gasp.
Henry realized as they both stood up that he only had one chance. The rewiring was still there- Right's eye was glowing about the same amount of red as it was blue. He needed a push in either direction.
"Right," Henry called. "He's a Toppat."
Right's head snapped up, and once again the rewiring took control. Pulling out a pistol, he quickly aimed it at Sven. Henry noticed Rewired-Right's hand shaking slightly, as though this was hard to do, even through his rewired loyalties.
For some reason, instead of defending himself, Sven just stared at Rewired-Right, tears forming in the corners of his eyes.
"Pappa?"
The implications hit Henry like a ton of bricks, and he started forward, yelling, "WAIT!"
Too late.
-------------------------------------------------
(One Year Later)
Henry had torn apart a family.
Reginald and Right had been let out of prison for the funeral. It had been a mass funeral, as Sven hadn't been the only casualty of the Toppats that day- not by far. Any Toppat member who had tried to fight back had been immediately shot down. Those who had surrendered were now in prison.
The other government workers treated that day like a victory- they'd finally taken down the Toppat Clan!
But Henry just couldn't see it that way. How could anyone act like the murder of anyone who dared oppose them was a good thing?
It wasn't only the casual mass murder of criminal that made Henry feel sick to his stomach every time he thought about it. It was the fact that he'd made a father kill their own son for his own personal gain.
What made it worse were the glimpses into other timelines, if he'd made other decisions. A chaotic sibling bond with Sven, teasing him along with someone named Ellie. Trying to get his workaholic quote on quote "little brother" to take a break and hang out with him and Ellie. Teasing Sven about his crush on another Toppat named Burt.
Glimpses of another life that Henry could never have, flashed of memory that stabbed at him with guilt until he felt like he couldn't breathe.
Henry swallowed hard and wiped away his tears with his sleeve. Why was he mourning someone he'd never actually met? Sven wasn't anything to him. Why should he care? The past was past.
Was past...
Henry stood up and ran into one of the guest rooms in his house he used for storing his gadgets. Frantically he started digging through the boxes.
After a few minutes, he found it and held it up. A time machine. He could erase his mistakes.
He could...
Henry hesitated, looking down at the green and teal gadget in his hands. Did he really deserve to go back? Why should he be able to be forgiven when it was his fault?
Should he really do this?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What do y'all think? Should Henry go back in time and save Sven? Or live with his mistakes and try to be better next time? I'll let you decide! (I just realized I kill off Sven way too freaking much lol)
Hope y'all enjoy this chapter, and I'll catch y'all later!
