Spades' POV

"Oh so youse would dare be seen witout your precious boyfriend?"

Ouch

It's been a weird couple of days bein only with Davey of all people. Don't get me wrong HES great and all, but one can only take so many snake facts.

I wonda how Jack put up wit it.

I haven't been seein Race too much lately, but does he really need ta be so antagonistic about it? I just duck my head down irritatedly and repeat the question.

"O great and mighty Racetrack Higgins, will thou so powerful bestow upon me the honor of goin ta sheepshead's witout whiney school boy?" He hesitates for a moment before shrugging.

"Fine, not like I have anythin betta ta do."

Hey at least he said yes.

—————————————————

He hasn't said much the whole walk ova here. He hasn't said much ta me about anything the past few days. I haven't heard or seen him snicker at anythin I've said lately and it's just startin ta sink in.

"So how've things been?" I ask uncertainly. This is uncharted territory and I have no idea what I'm doin, but I don't most of the time so maybe it won't be too bad.

"Fine. It's just a good thing I have odda friends."

"Yeah well I guess dats what happens when youse is da cute one."

"Like youse of all people can judge." I feel my cheeks grow slightly hot as a shred of hope processes.

"So youse think I'm cute?" Now his cheeks flush red and his eyes pop out a little.

"Shut up I neva said dat." He muttas as bright red blush seeps inta his cheeks. I turn my head slightly away.

"Yeah but Davey does." Dammit I don't think I should've said dat. Instantly the calm is shattered.

"Yeah I bet he does." He says huffily. "Do you even like him?"

"Why wouldn't I?"

"There's no chemistry! You weren't even friends!"

"I don't have ta explain myself!"

"Look, I'm your friend!" I cringe at the statement. He leans in a bit closer, resting his hand on my shoulder.

"Yeah and dats all you are. Did ya eva think I wouldn't wait around for youse?" The woids come out more mutter then I had intended but it does just fine. He looks at me confusedly and I sigh.

Honestly how can boys be so clueless?

"Youse neva once thought that you mattered more than a friend ta me?" He opens his mouth, but no words come out. We stand in silence for a moment, just hoping he comes up with something ta say. Nada. "Forget it. Youse is too hopeless." and wit dat I storm outta the races, itchin ta get away from dis idiot.

Spot's POV

I was walking Bullets home when I had heard echoing footsteps on concrete coming consistently closer. I had brushed it off, saying that It's New York City at night it's fine, when I started getting nervous was when I see some guy turn up from behind a building and point a gun straight at Bullets. It was dark and the guy was wearing black but I could see he was young. The cold click from the trigger is etched into my mind. That and the vision of how fast blood flows as she had fallen. She didn't even say anything. She wanted to save oxygen I guess, or maybe it was too shocking. Whatever it was my arms got soaked with blood as I had tried desperately to grasp onto any last fragment of life from her. I've gotten soaked before, but no one ever told me something could hurt like this. I don't know what happened to the guy. I didn't care much at the time. I wanted to go with her. I still do. Everything here seems so much colder, I don't know anyone will ever care about me so much again or vice versa. She was my world and now she's gone. I'm alone.
