Annus fit in rather easily, taking a room on the second floor and adopting their share of chores. All round they were a calming presence in the house, especially to Wilford, and were more than happy to sit and talk or simply listen to what the other egos had to say. Doctor Iplier took an imediate shine to them, having found someone who did not immediately dismiss his odd behavior, Dark also found that he was truely enjoying the new ego's company.
What was strange though was the way they would often stare wistfully out any nearby window, almost as though they were searching for something. The others simply brushed it off though, they had seen stranger after all.-
King and Yan-chan had fallen asleep on the couch after a movie night. Dark was debating if it was really worth waking them when Annus grabbed one of the discared blankets, tucking it around their sleeping forms.
Dark watched their face soften, then become sad as their gaze returned to the window. Curiosity piqued he gestured for them to sit together.
"You're quite the caretaker."
Annus simply shrugged, "I suppose I'm used to caring for someone."
Dark leaned forward, "is that so?"
Could Annus be like Ed and have a child, or did he have a significant other, perhaps a younger sibling?
"If you want to know Dark," Annus fixed him with a look, "all you have to do is ask."
Damn his need to know everything, "I'm asking."
A faraway look passed over Annus, "they are my other half, and though I know I will see them soon, I do miss them dearly, it's painful sometimes."
Pulling at their tie, humorless laughter filled the delicate silence, " I know it is selfish, but I can hardly breathe without them by my side."
Dark found himself at a loss for words, old feelings writhed in his gut and sent pangs of longing through his heart. The emotion in the new ego's voice sent his mind to Wilford, and to the William he once knew. For a moment he allowed himself to drown in the memories, before tearing himself back to the present, there was no use dwelling in the past.
"Is that who you're always looking for out there?" Dark asked, hoping his spiral had not been outwardly visible, "your, other half?"
Annus didn't react. Dark wondered if they had even heard when they opened their mouth to speak again.
"I do watch for them, and I can find them in the sound of rain, in sunsets and sunrises, in the melodies of music and the blooming of flowers, in all the small things. I am reminded of them every second that ticks by, because I know I shall never forget. For their very soul holds me against reason, against promise, against peace, against hope, against happiness, against all discouragement that could be."
Tears glistened in the corners of the young god's eyes, "they are more to me than one can even dream. They are the moon when I'm lost in darkness and the sun that lights my life. Their heart overflows with a kindness and warmth of which this world is not worthy of. We are as much a part of one another as we are ourselves, they are my all and they are more."
Annus closed their eyes and it was as though time halted, Dark dare not breathe in fear of shattering the moment. Then white orbs opened, focusing back on him.
"Apologies patience is not my greatest strength," they chuckled, "ironic isn't it."
Dark nodded, "I may not be able to relate to you but I can understand, and there is no need to apologise my friend."
Annus stood, stretching his limbs with a yawn, "I believe it is bedtime, you go ahead I can finish tidying down here."
Dark hesitated, "are you sure?"
A firm hand turned him toward the stairs, "yes, you should rest, lest your age begin to show without your beauty sleep."
The entity winked before going back to pick up discarded popcorn bowls.
Dark warily climbed the stairs, pausing as he heard a soft voice whisper into the silence.
"My friend."-
The morning started as many had before it, with the exception of Annus not being downstairs when Dark arrived. Usually the two appeared at the same time, and it wasn't like the Time god to sleep in.
The night before they had seemed fidgety, having a nervous energy the others hadn't seen in the few weeks they had been living there.
Bing was grumbling about Google kicking him out of the kitchen, when he turned toward the windows and let out a high pitched scream. Everyone in the kitchen scrambled to see what could have shocked the android, who was staring wide eyed into the garden.
A lone figure in black stood stock still, silhouetted against the early morning sun.
"What the fuck?" Yancy muttered, breaking the silence.
Dr Plier downed the last of his coffee with a dead eyed look, "nope, not today." With that he turned around and went back upstairs.
Google handed a cup to Dark, "thoughts?"
The man only shrugged, "I'm just going to let them do their thing and hopefully nobody gets stabbed this time."
Google nodded, returning to it's tasks.
Bing began moving again after a small kick from Bim, but he kept a close eye on the unmoving figure.
Despite his statement Dark couldn't help but do the same, something felt off about the appearance of this ego.
The Jims took an immediate interest in the figure as they too woke up, zooming in and out with their camera from the safety of the living room. Three of them muttered among themselves as the fourth chewed thoughtfully on a piece of toast.
Swallowing, toast Jim nodded, apparently coming to a conclusion, "it's them."
The other Jims blinked before vigorously nodding.
"Yes yes."
"Them."
"Of course."
"It could only be."
"Certainly."
They then scuttled away to do whatever it was the Jims did during the day.
"Well that was ominous," Ed said from his place at the table, Bim humming in agreement.
"Am I the only one who gets the creeps from those four?" Silver shivered as he took a seat.
"Only cause you're a pussy," Illinois laughed as he plucked the hero's cereal from the table, "really you could learn a thing or two from me."
"Don't worry Silver," Yan-chan pat his shoulder softly.
"Thanks Yan-"
"There's nothing wrong with being a pussy."
Silver groaned, letting his head thud gently onto the table.
Before anyone else could say something Annus uncharacteristically stumbled down the stairs, still rubbing the sleep from their eyes, "I barely slept a wink last ni-"
They froze as they spied the figure outside. Fully awake now they immediately began toward the front door, the mysterious figure finally seeming to move themselves, also began walking with purpose toward the house.
None of the other egos dared move until the slam of the door echoed through the house, then suddenly it was chaos as everyone rushed outside.
Dark pushed to the front of the crowd, past hushed whispers of "shit's about to go down" and "fight, fight, fight, fight".
Black and White rushed toward each other, colliding into a tight embrace that silenced the crowd. Fingers curling into fabric they pulled tighter, as if afraid the other may disappear if they let go. Inaudible whispers exchanged in shared breath as matching grey rivers ran down their faces.
Whispers became louder as they stiffly cracked apart, though still holding tight. Dark strained to hear their words as the volume steadily increased the further they pulled away.
Threading fingers together they began nodding along to the words, now audible and growing in speed.
"Unus."
"Annus."
Their stances widened as they finally lost physical contact, the egos beginning to glance at each other in confusion.
"Unus."
"Annus."
"Unus!"
"Annus!"
The two started shouting back and forth faster and faster until they seemed to be chanting
"Unus!"
"Annus!"
"Unus!"
"Annus!"
Dark was at a complete loss for words, Bim patting him on the shoulder sympatheticly.
"Anyone else hear a clock ticking?" Yancy asked, immediately regretting it as Unus and Annus whipped around to stare at him.
Bing screamed again and even Google jolted slightly in surprise, though it would never admit it.
"Bingiplier, King of the squirrels and the silver Shepard consider fleeing to the presumed safety of the house, even Captain Magnum entertains the thought of leaving these supernatural entities to a more experienced party though his pride would never let him admit it," the host's narration fills the heavy silence, as the three formerly mentioned parties do exactly as stated.
"The remaining few consider who will be the first to greet the mysterious new-"
"Well Hellooooo," Wilford drawls, interrupting the host as he walks up to the monochromatic pair, "I don't believe we've met," he stuck out his hand, "Wilford Warfstache."
"Unus," the newcomer smiled, shaking his hand, "I apologise for my sudden intrusion, I am not very patient."
Dark didn't trust the sudden change in demeanor, nor the look of the new ego.
"Why don't you look like Mark?"
Yan-chan asked the question first, causing pause to everyone but Unus who only smiled.
"Because I am not."
Several voices began yelling at once, Dark's rising above them all, "What!?"
Several of the remaining egos skittered away from the sudden loud ringing and fracturing aura, but Dark barely noticed as he tried to figure out how an outsider had managed get into his dimension and how the hell he was going to get them out.
Annus however, completely unphased, turned to his partner with a smile, "breakfast?"
"Oh yes I am famished," Unus linked their arms together and all but skipped toward the house.-
Dark regretted ever considering that Mark could be mature. Somehow there was coffee beans everywhere, something in the kitchen was on fire, there was a bowl of coffee on the table, and he was making direct eye contact with Annus trying to eat scrambled eggs with a paddle.
"Want some eggs?"
Dark could feel a migraine coming on, "is that a fucking dildo?"
"a drilldo," Unus corrected as if it were the most normal thing in the world to be mixing eggs with.
"I'm going back to bed."
Dark walked up the stairs, purposely ignoring Google's aggravated whirring and Wilford's deranged laughter. He just was not dealing with this today, as long as nobody was dying it wasn't his problem.
At least it couldn't get any worse.
