after lawrence and casey had their talk, they sat there silently staring at eachother.casey was clearly aggravated with lawrence. she had been tapping her foot impatiently, waiting for him to say something atleast.
yet he hadn't known what to say.
"okay, well if you're not gonna say anything to me, you better say something to adam." casey finally told him, "and if you don't, you're a prick."
he stared.
and when she finally left the room, he sighed to himself.
he knew he was being selfish.
but he was so confused.
then finally, a rush of courage flew through him. and he immediately stepped out of the room,
heading toward adam.
"let's go." he said, grabbing adam's arm.
"what? where are we going?"
"just shut up and let's go."
then they both walked out of there.
-
a while later, they were just sitting in lawrence's car.
lawrence didn't know where he wanted to go.
and adam was just sitting there quietly waiting for lawrence to say something.
"i'm not mad at you." lawrence told him.
adam said nothing.
lawrence sighed and finally started driving.
"where are we going?" adam asked again.
"i don't know." lawrence whispered back.
adam sat back quietly, trying not to look at lawrence.
the car ride was super awkward, yet everything about this is awkward.
everything is always awkward and filled with an uncomfortable tension.
it never felt right.
not much later, lawrence finally pulled into the parking lot of the coffee shop.
it was nearly about to close though.
since it was so late.
adam shrugged as he got out of the car with lawrence.
then they both walked inside.
once they got a table, they didn't look at eachother.
they stared down at their feet, or into space.
"what can i get you fellows to drink?" a waitress asked them.
"water." lawrence ordered.
"do you have lemonade?" adam asked quietly.
"we do." the waitress smiled and wrote down, "is that all for you?"
"for now." lawrence told her politely.
"okay, i'll check back up in a bit." the waitress informed and walked off.
"do you come here a lot?" adam asked lawrence, finally looking up at him.
"yeah, i come here to work a lot." lawrence answered.
"cool." adam replied, not knowing what else to say.
"yeah."
silence.
awkward silence.
there was no one else in the coffee shop besides an elderly couple that looked like they were almost on their death bed.
"are you mad at me?" lawrence asked adam.
"no, i'm mad at myself." adam implied.
"wasn't your fault, i don't think." lawrence told him.
"but i still did it, and it was stupid of me to do." adam rolled his eyes to himself.
lawrence sighed.
and so did adam shortly after that.
"i don't want to be here." adam told lawrence.
"why not?"
"i just don't feel like it."
"why?"
"look, i just don't feel like talking here." adam said, "can we just take our drinks to go?"
"fine, if you want." lawrence rolled his eyes and said.
they both waited for the waitress came back.
and when she did,
they told her they wanted to take their drinks to go.
so then they left.
-
later, after driving a while, adam felt tired, almost exhausted.
yet he didn't know why.
lawrence was wide awake though.
he was also driving in circles around different neighborhoods.
not knowing where else to go.
"can we just go back to your place?" adam said with his eyes closed.
"no, not now." lawrence answered, kind of angrily.
"whatever." adam then turned over and rested.
lawrence peaked over at him and saw he was almost asleep.
"adam." lawrence said.
"hm?"
"don't go to sleep."
"mhm." adam mumbled.
lawrence looked back at the road, feeling angry that he was just gonna fall asleep on him.
he knew adam wanted to go home, but he wanted to talk to adam more.
but he didn't know how or what he was going to say.
lawrence turned on the radio and played music to help him not focus on anything but the music.
the music made him pretty sleepy as well.
he looked back over at adam and saw he was still turned to the side, resting his eyes.
"adam?" lawrence called his name again.
that time he didn't answer.
"adam." lawrence touched his arm, shaking it.
then he figured adam was asleep, so started driving back home.
-
once they reached home, lawrence just sat there in his car in the parking garage.
he turned over to look at adam again, dead asleep, like a baby almost, yet grown.
he was kind of like an adult baby.
he looks so peaceful, lawrence thought.
then lawrence closed his eyes and continued to listen to the music that played.
but he still wasn't tired.
he peaked over at adam again, just to check on him.
lawrence felt worried actually, and stuck his fingers under adam's nose to check if he were still breathing.
and it was a relief that he was.
lawrence didn't know why that concerned him so much, but it did.
suddenly, he felt very exhausted after a loud yawn came from his mouth.
he didn't want to wake adam, so he grabbed a blanket from the backseat of his car and laid it on top of adam's sleeping body.
lawrence stared for a while but then finally fell asleep himself.
