CUT TO: ADMINISTRATION BUILDING

EXT. COLLECTIONS DEPARTMENT - LATE MORNING

DRAY SITS ACROSS FROM AN ADMINISTRATION WORKER WHO PUNCHES SOME NUMBERS INTO A CALCULATOR. ONCE SHE IS DOWN SHE WINCES AND DRAY SPECULATES WHAT SHE WINCED ABOUT.

[Dray]

What is it?

[Administration Worker]

I took into account what you said you make working at the library. Unfortunately, to keep up with the payments, you would need to work double that.

[Dray]

(Thinking)

Damn, you've gotta be kidding me.

(Speaking)

Well, there has to be something that I can do right?

[Administration Worker]

Yes, but you won't like it. There are loans that you could use to help pay for the rest of what you need but you would have to pay those back as well. I can't imagine that it's something that you would be interested in though. It also seems that you were involved in that weird enrollment fiasco, it's taking them forever to get a handle on it.

[Dray]

So what does all of that mean?

[Administration Worker]

Well, it means that your first two months here will be waived because there is some legal president for it. However, there are the other two months that can't be waived and you will have to pay those. This is what the running total is coming to.

THE ADMINISTRATION WORKER SHOWS DRAY THE CALCULATOR AND DRAY SEES THAT IT'S $5000.

[Dray]

(Thinking)

Holy shit!

[Administration Worker]

At this point, it would be very disingenuous of me to tell you that you should continue trying to enroll here. That number won't slack at all, sadly.

DRAY LOOKS UP AT THE WORKER AND TRIES TO HIDE HIS DISAPPOINTMENT.

[Dray]

Yeah, I guess you're right.

[Administration Worker]

Yeah, it's a harsh reality but paying that off with your job now if you weren't attending this school, in particular, isn't impossible. It could be done in a couple of years.

[Dray]

Well, I guess that it was good while it lasted.

[Adminstration Worker]

I'm really sorry. I wish there was something that I could do to help.

[Dray]

Nah, it's fine.

[Administration Worker]

Let me get a copy of all of this for your records.

THE ADMINISTRATION WORKER PRINTS OFF THE INFORMATION FOR DRAY AND HE PUTS IT INTO HIS BACKPACK.

[Administration Worker]

Have a nice rest of the day.

[Dray]

Yeah, you too.

DRAY LEAVES THE OFFICE AND AS HE'S LEAVING THE BUILDING HE PUTS ON HIS HEADPHONES. DRAY TAKES TWO STEPS AND FEELS A DROP OF RAIN. AS HE LOOKS UP SUDDENLY IT BEGINS POURING DOWN RAIN.
