Chapter 17: Best Friends

Mingyu had been waiting for Soonyoung. He was hurt and anxious about the whole Wonwoo thing. He waited near the auditorium even after Booseok went home. He wanted to confront Hoshi about it. Secretly he was worried about Hoshi being with Woozi as well. He always noticed the change in Woozi's behaviour when he was around Soonyoung.
After an hour passed he got really worried and wondered if Hoshi left for home already. He decided to check again and asked for where Woozi's studio was.

Woozi and Hoshi were having a fun time deciding what kind of duet they wanted to perform. They discussed many ideas but couldn't concrete on any one. This was new for Woozi. Usually everyone around him agreed to his ideas and went with his plans but Soonyoung would just say "noooo hyung that's boring ! We can't do that we have to do something fantastic !" And then he would tell him silly ideas that were totally impractical or out of their budget. Their discussion ended when Woozi got a call from Coups that the last bus would leave soon. They agreed to discuss more over texts and exchanged numbers. They both might've got a little red about them exchanging numbers but none of them was going to accept that. Soon they both headed out of the studio and bid their farewell.
Hoshi took out his headphones and plugged them in as he hummed through the corridor. He spotted Mingyu across the hallway and walked to him.
H: Gyyyyuuuuu boi ! Wassup ?

Mingyu who was looking in the other direction turned and looked at a happily skipping Hoshi coming towards him. He couldn't help but smile.
M: Oh there you are ! I was waiting for you!

H: Where are the others ?

M: they left a while back !

H: Omg ! You're my best friend! Let's get going !! (Smiling and walking away to the exit)

Mingyu was suddenly reminded of why he was waiting for Soonyoung. The words Best friend rang in his head and he smiled awkwardly as he walked behind him quietly. Hoshi looks like he is in a good mood right now. Did something happen with Woozi hyung? Should I ask him about Wonwoo? What should I do? Mingyu was overwhelmed by thoughts.
M: Hey Hosh?

H: yesss gyuuuu !

M: I wanted to ask you something!

H: what is it ?

M: (biting his lip) do you want to grab some food ? I'm a bit hungry ! ( awkward smile)

H: Yess ! Thanks for asking I'm starving.

They walked to a cute little cafe near their campus and ordered some food. After a while Hoshi started to sense some discomfort in Mingyu's behaviour. He kept fiddling with his food and hadn't eaten much even though he was the one who was hungry.
H: Hey Mingyu? (Gathering the lost boy's attention on him) what's wrong? You know you can tell me !

M: I.. it's actually,, i wanted to ask you something earlier...i don't know if i should.

H: you're not going to propose to me are you ? Cause I'm not saying yes. (Teasing Smile) hahaha !

M: That's just rude! I wasn't going to! Why would you even think that omg!!(poker face a little red)

H: You're even blushing ! Don't lie!

M: I'm not blushing! I wouldn't date you in your dreams ! So shut up !

H: Whhhaaaaaa ! What's so wrong with dating me that you wouldn't even date me in your dreams ? That's just so rude but whatever. Tell me what's wrong ?

M: It's about Wonwoo. I know you two know each other. He told me you guys were friends. Best friends. I didn't want to pry into your personal life but when he told me I wanted to ask you about it. I thought I knew a lot about you but it turned out I didn't. You don't have to tell me if you don't want to I just..

Before he continued Hoshi put his hand over Mingyu's and gave him a sad smile.
H: It's not like I wanted to hide it from you. It's just a little hard for me to talk about my past. And Wonwoo was a big part of it. Honestly when I saw him at the bar that day I almost had an anxiety attack. I wanted to tell you about it right away but I couldn't. (Looking down)

Hearing all that made Mingyu calm again. He felt at peace that Soonyoung who wanted to get away from his past wanted to tell him about it.
M: Hey ! It's okay ! Just the fact that you wanted to tell me makes me feel 10 times better. Take your time Hosh. Don't worry about it. Finish your food let's head home for today.
Hoshi nodded in agreement and wolfed down the rest of the food. After they both finished they walked to the nearest parking lot outside college where Mingyu parked his sports car. On the way home Soonyoung decided to tell Gyu about his past and told him while he drove in silence. It wasn't a lie that he wanted to tell Mingyu. He really did want to but couldn't find the time. He told him about his childhood with Wonwoo and when he opened about being gay in front of him. He told him how he thought Wonwoo was the best friend anyone could ever have until the time he betrayed him.
He finished around the time they reached his place.
H: That was a long story. (Smiling) Thanks for listening and thanks for dropping me home.

M: I'll pick you up tomorrow ! And I'll always be here to listen! Have a good night Hoshi.
On his way back things started to make sense to Mingyu. Why Soonyoung acted up around Wonwoo, why he almost broke his leg that day in the bar. One thing that was crystal clear to him was that he had to protect Soonyoung from Wonwoo at all costs. Listening to their childhood stories Mingyu deciphered a few possibilities which included Wonwoo having a major crush on Hoshi. I mean who wouldn't fall in love with Know Soonyoung if they got to spend that amount of time with him, he thought to himself and then mentally cursed himself. Stop talking like you like him. He repeated in his mind.

After taking a long needed shower Hoshi jumped on his bed and took out his phone. He felt he had a good day ! He told Gyu about his past, got a duet with Woozi and even his number. After replying to thousands of texts from DK and Boo he decided to text Woozi first since he was the junior.

H:
