[jungkook]"Ah, how are your parents then?" I asked the two siblings after setting my teacup down on a coaster. The room went silent, at first our gaze averted to Soojin but when we realized she was staring at dad, our eyes only followed. After what felt like 30 minutes but in reality only 30 seconds of silence, Soojin decided to speak up, "Uhm, I don't think Seokjin would be... comfortable with talking about that, haha..."
My eyes went wide and I turned to dad and bowed, "I'm sorry! I'm so sorry.." He akwardly chuckled and sighed, "It's alright.... Just... brings back not so good memories...."
[seokjin]
My body almost jolted upwards after hearing the words parents.
I could feel my heart pumping faster than before, in a daze I just kept staring at the table while my head filled with memories and thoughts again.
"Dad! Look, I got an A- on my test!" The little boy shouted as he ran inside the house, nearly shoving the piece of bond paper in his father's face. "Take your shoes off first, you little scoundrel!" The old weary man warned.
He was so excited to show his father his little accomplishment that he had forgotted to take his shoes off, leaving dirt all over the foyer of their home. "My Gosh, Seokjin!! How many times have I told you to take your shoes off before entering! Look how dirty the floor is now, I'm going to have to clean this all over again!" A woman's high pitched voice nagged.
The child stopped and froze in his tracks, his emotions quickly turning the opposite direction, "I'm sorry, mom," he whispered, almost inaudible.
"What are you so winded up about, anyway?!" the angry woman shouted, placing her hands on her hips. The nine-year-old bowed his head down and flinched at his mother's raising voice, "T.. I.. I got... a..." he stammered, tears welling up in his eyes. The paper he had been so proud of was quickly torn from his hands and the woman looked at it and face palmed.
"This? This is what you're so proud of? An A- grade on some test? Come on, Seokjin, do better!
I just talked to Jen's mom and she told me she studies immediately after getting home, help with chores, and gets straight A's!
What do you do after getting home? You write. What benefit do you get from writing fictional characters in some other dimension?! Oh my Gosh, you're never going to get anywhere in life, get that through your head! Stop loitering around and study more to do better in school, for Pete's Sake!"Seokjin went full on silent, every word seeping into his little mind, unknowingly affecting his own future. "Oh don't start crying, Seokjin. Boys don't cry!" The man sitting on his chair warned. He took a deep breath, quietly grabbed the paper from his mother's wrinkled hands, and stormed off upstairs.
Since that day he never uttered any other word at home besides a few 'yeah' and 'no's, and only spoke when necessary. When he got home he just rushed up to his room to do his homework diligently and study all day, only coming downstairs to eat. His relationship with his parents slowly tore apart and he never had any enjoyable conversations with them. He never touched his writing notebook again.
