When Masane's alarm went off in the morning, she lay in bed for a few minutes, cracking her neck and stretching before heading to the bathroom. She grimaced at the sight of her tangled and rats mess of a hair. She began dousing the mangled mess with water and gently untangling as much of it as she could.
At this point it'd be better just to shave the damn thing.
Finally after about 20 minutes she had it without knots and tangles. She ran her brush through her hair, eyeing the now slightly wavy indigo hair that reached her mid back and tied it back before staring in the mirror.
She never took the time to care about appearances but maybe she should. She had the purple hair that her mother gave both her and her brother along with their silver eyes. She and her brother had an olive looking skin tone that they'd been passed down by their father. She preferred to keep her nails short, as to not intervene or cause problems with her work.
She took her khakis and a grey button up shirt and slid them on over her undergarments. She grabbed the buckle up boots her friend gave her for her birthday and buckled them on before grabbing her belt. It was able to hold several different items required for her studies including vials and test tubes. She snatched one of her lab coats and slid it on over her shirt and placed a butterfly hairpin on her bangs, keeping them out of her face. Lastly she grabbed the satchel she had bought with her investments at the mall.
With one last look around she placed her goggles over her head and smiled. She looked ready to go!
She headed towards the kitchen to see Kiu pouring a bowl of cereal for Yoshikawa. They talked animatedly, excited for the day ahead. Masane smiled warmly before sitting down and indulging herself in a lovely breakfast.
After about 20 minutes they had finished their breakfast and headed out to the car. They traveled over gravelly terrain and newly paved roads until they had arrived at a large building.
It was an enormous building, at least five stories tall. The building was a pristine white surrounded with a golden furnish. The stairs led to an archway, showing off the heavy wooden door. Bushes lined the side of the school, with different assortments of berries and flowers.
Masane opened her car door and stepped out, grabbing her bags from the trunk. Her mom came around the other side, with her brother, both teary eyed. She kneeled down to meet her brother head on, and ruffled his hair with a smile on her face.
"Don't cry, lil man. I'll be back soon. Now while I'm gone, listen to mom. Eat well, study hard. No slacking off, you hear me?"
Yoshikawa nodded frantically. "I'll be on my best behavior, don't worry! I'll be a brother you can be proud of!"
She laughed and said "Silly boy. You're already a brother I'm proud of. " Then she stood.
She stared at her mother without any emotion on her face, head tilted as if thinking on how to solve an equation. Then, she walked up to Kiu and wrapped her arms stiffly around her mom, as if hugging a stranger. A few seconds passed before her hug was returned.
"Take care mother."
"Take care, sweetie."
With a bow to her family, Masane Kioyoko grabbed her luggage and walked towards the school, each step echoing on the marble steps. With a final wave, she entered the school.
She took a few steps to admire the regal school before feeling a stabbing, burning pain in the back of her neck. Immediately her eyes blurred, her body became weak. She swayed before her legs gave out and someone caught her. Before she could go unconscious, a sickly sweet voice rang out.
"Welcome, Masane Kioyoko, to Success Granted High School."
