Taro had always fought off severe illnesses as he suffered from a condition that left his body open to any and all bacteria that harmed him.

In and out of hospitals, his father wanted him to have safety. Such as a doctor where he'd be surrounded by medicine available to him, or as a lawyer where he'd have a stable income and a stable environment.

However Taro never wanted this. He refused to be bound by his illness and instead always cycled around his neighborhood. At times he went faster than motorcycles or even cars. He was that fast and he loved going into tournaments to bring home abundances of money to help out his family.

Of course his father was very much angered by his son's actions. How could he have no care for his health when that's all his father did?

And so they got into a fight and a bet. If he went on to Success Granted High School and graduated, knowing it was the hardest school to graduate, his father would no longer have any say in what Taro's career would be. In return if he couldn't graduate, he'd have to drop cycling and go into the career his father chose for him.

Of course at his next appointment,  his aunt was with him, who also cycled often. And when she heard her nephew was now sick with cancer, she asked him what he wanted to do.

"Don't tell dad, he'll never let me go to Success Granted and everything will be for nothing.  I NEED to go to Success Granted, Auntie."

Knowing he never wanted to avoid his life out of fear, she agreed to keep hush about the news... not knowing it was the last time she would see him...
