The Exchange

Avinash took the veil off her face to kiss her, while she just stared at him in confusion. Her eyes wanted answers. Many answers. But standing here on the wedding altar neither could she ask any questions and nor could he answer them.

Today was supposed to be the wedding day of Amelia Hillirdge and Asher Kaufman but due to some unknown reasons, Asher Kaufman eloped from his own wedding. However, to save the Kaufman family's name, Matthew Kaufman's elder son Avinash Kaufman was appointed as the new groom.

Yes, appointed. This marriage was solely forced upon both individuals by their evil and money-minded families. What angered Amelia was how he cheated. Albeit it was an Arranged marriage, he didn't have any right to ditch her at the end moment.

Not that she was interested in him but what matters to her was her pride. She looked all around the room with her sparkling blue eyes. The wedding was a very private concern. Only a few people were invited. She saw pity in their eyes.

The fact Avinash was an obese twenty-five-year-old man-made people feel pity for her but she didn't care about what people thought. What did trouble her was how tired and defeated he appeared.

He leaned in to kiss her and she closed her eyes. She was prepared to feel the pressure of his lips on hers but instead, he kissed the corner of her mouth, surprising her. She looked at him with gratitude glistening in her eyes.

They moved on to their first dance as a couple. 'A thousand years' playing in the background, both of them moved to the melody. She looked at him and he looked at anywhere but her. He knew she wanted answers but he didn't have any. He was empty-handed.

Contrary to popular belief, Avinash was a very good dancer. He took the perfect steps along with her. As the music stopped, everyone clapped for them.

They cut their Mango flavored Wedding Cake and had the meals. Now it was time for Amelia to leave with her husband and live as a wife with him.

"Caught yourself a good one, didn't you sister?" Ivy Hillridge snickered. She was very unhappy when Amelia's marriage was fixed with Asher. Asher was a typical bad boy with his looks and a practical womanizer. Even Amelia didn't like Asher.

However, Ivy hated Amelia since childhood. Amelia was very intelligent and ambitious. If she wanted something, she snatched it. She only had one weakness, her family. She ignored everything and everyone which or who said against her family.

But after today, she didn't have any. The family she trusted blindly didn't even think first before making such a cheap move and fixing her marriage. She didn't even think her family could stoop so low for money.

She didn't speak to her parents. She physically couldn't. She wanted to run away from them. Mark Hilliridge and Laura Hilliridge, on the other hand, did feel a bit sad about the silent treatment but let it slide. They knew that they hurt their daughter and a simple sorry couldn't mend their broken relationship.
