The Family
"Yes, Kavya-- I know. Stop shouting. Yes, I will be there. Okay bye," Avinash kept his phone down after talking to Kavya. It was Nani's birthday tomorrow and Kavya was planning to surprise her with a party.
"Is everything okay?" Amelia asked, sitting beside him on the bed. They have become comfortable with each other. Avinash's confidence is not exactly what it is supposed to be but increasing each passing day.
Even Matthew is giving over his control to Avinash. He seems to be happy these days. Matthew, even, takes his days off sometimes and enjoys at home. Avni was so surprised when she saw her father in the living room watching television.
"Tomorrow is Nani's birthday and Kavya wants Avni, you, and I there. She wants to throw a surprise party for her"
"What's the problem then?"
"Apart from training you? Nothing" Amelia looked at him in confusion.
"Training? For what?"
"You are going to meet an Indian family. It's not as simple as it looks like. Indians are really good at heart but they are very particular about something. Also, I must warn you about their eating habits and also not to forget..."
Avinash kept on rambling about everything and anything that came to his mind. He was speaking without thinking. His rambling came to stop when there was a knock at the door. Avinash got up and opened the door.
Avni entered the room like a ray of energy. She flopped herself on the bed like it was hers. Avinash shook his head and sat on the bed in front of her. He stretched his legs and rested them on Avni's Thighs.
"Avi!" She shrieked and pushed them off but that didn't stop Avinash from keeping his legs on her. She started slapping his legs to keep them away.
"Keep you smelly feet away, you frog" He just laughed and kept hitting her with his legs.
"My feet don't smell like yours do" He sang loudly and straightened up to hold Avni's hand and hit her. After having enough, Avni went to Amelia's side and tried to hide behind her.
Amelia, on the other side, was enjoying the show. Both of them were so entertaining throwing pointless insults at each other. After deciding that it was enough for both of them, Amelia stopped the fight by trying her best to stop herself from laughing loudly.
When all of them sat silently after the fight, everyone stared at each other before bursting into laughter. This was the first time Amelia was listening to Avinash's laughter. In the past months, He didn't laugh this carelessly and wholeheartedly even once. Scratch that, he didn't even laugh once.
She felt good, looking at him. He grew ten times more handsome by being this happy and careless.
Avni missed his brother being him. She missed all those playful things. For her, her happy brother was back. He looked like himself, he behaved like himself.
